The Florida Hospital Association says 68 hospitals in Florida have less than 48 hours worth of oxygen.

The Florida Hospital Association is sounding the alarm, saying a survey shows 68 hospitals have less than a 48-hour supply of oxygen.

Hospitals are using three to four times as much oxygen as they were before the pandemic because more than 17,000 patients are hospitalized statewide with COVID-19. The FHA survey, which was done today, shows 68 hospitals have less than 48 hours worth of supply, with about half of these have less than 36 hours.

“This is not like running out of masks, right? This is life saving,” said Florida Hospital Association President Mary Mayhew. “And right now we’re focused on how to make sure that does not happen. And so hospitals have been raising these concerns, with the state, with the division of emergency management, with the governor’s office, and have raised these concerns federally.”

Mayhew says part of the problem is a lack of delivery drivers. But she is also worried that there is an oxygen supply problem.

OHA’s most recent update on COVID-19 breakthrough cases, released today, found that 88% of the 14,523 reported COVID-19 cases between Aug. 15 and Aug. 21 occurred in people who were unvaccinated. There were 1,739 breakthrough cases, accounting for 12% of the week’s cases.

The median age of the breakthrough cases during this period was 48. Thirty-six breakthrough cases involved residents of care facilities, senior living communities or other congregate care settings. There were 31 breakthrough cases in people aged 12 to 17.

To date, there have been 9,539 COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough cases in Oregon. The median age of all cases was 48. Breakthrough cases have been reported in all 36 counties.

Cases of COVID-19 are far more common in unvaccinated people. The report shows that the rate of COVID-19 in unvaccinated people is currently approximately six times higher than in vaccinated people.

To date, 5.5% of all vaccine breakthrough cases have been hospitalized and 0.9% have died. The median age of the people who died was 83.

The number of vaccine breakthrough cases identified in Oregon remains very small when compared to the more than 2.38 million Oregonians who have completed their COVID-19 vaccination series.

Because vaccinated people are so ashamed that they are refusing to seek testing and treatment...

 

I agree. A lot if not most cases from asymptomatic people probably go unreported. Not sure if there much of a way to avoid that.

That being said, I'm vaccinated and if I feel as much as a cold coming on I'm gonna go get a swab. Last thing I want to do is spread that shit to somebody else.

 

Should I feel bad for thinking:

1. Unvaccinated people should not be provided a bed in the IU?

2. Unvaccinated folks should not be provided urgent care?

3. Unvaccinated folks should not be provided medical care at all? Unless going to a center where the providers disagree with forced vaccine?

 

I can sympathize with the fuck you attitude towards unvaccinated. But left untreated they infect children and immunocompromised people.

Get the damn vaccine already.

 

Not gonna happen without far more incentive.

It's seriously beyond time to start paying people thousands to be vaccinated or start triaging the unvaccinated out of hospitals.

We're in this mess because our leaders have failed us. We've failed to educate our population, leaving them susceptible to conspiracies and fear mongering. We've failed to offer competing incentive to combat the conspiracies and fear mongering.

Blaming individuals doesn't work for societal problems. Personal accountability isn't a solution we can rely on. Ever.

We're the most well prepared society to ever face this kind of threat and we're shitting the bed for all of the world and future generations to see.

It's embarrassing. I'm ashamed.

 

A lot of effort has gone into education. But you know the expression you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink. When a significant section of the population gets information from those who say experts are not just wrong but evil, when their political leaders, so called, say don't get vaccinated, don't wear mask, I mean, it's hard to break through the wall of bullshit. Much stronger than the useless expensive wall at the border that a strong wind took down.
