Dude, this is the thread where we get to bury our collective heads in the sand and sing gleefully! Join in, mon!
I can't sing. Seriously. Ignoring things doesn't make them disappear. But there were some great bands.
There can be a difference between ignoring and taking a time out for a breath of fresh air. In todays intense climate, im of full belief we all need to take a timeout and breathe some fresh air once in a while. It doesnt mean anyone is ignoring anything. Consider it more of balancing our emotions. From how we all seem to want to chop each other down on a daily basis, i figured this thread would be refreshing. Nothing to do with ignoring.
im not so sure about that. I used to think the same. I think there is still just as much good music now as there ever has been. Problem is finding it with all of the saturation of shit music. Its just harder to find these days because of all of the different platforms, major labels not having their hooks in all the bands like they used to etc. some great independent music out there. Just hard to find. Stay positive. Want me to send ya some links to some great modern music?
I didn’t say it was dead. I just don’t think it’s as creative. The mainstream certainly sucks. My statement was (obviously) rather generic. I know there’s some good stuff out there. I mean, shit, any hear Eric Clapton’s garbage song about COVID? That might be his worst song ever.
Troubled times are the reason those great songs were written, not because things were right but because they were so wrong...Jessie Collin Young wrote Get Together about being shipped to Viet Nam..."when the ones that left us here return for us at last"......the 60s were not a peace and love time...they were a cry for peace and love...big difference...then cocaine and disco showed up and everyone went dancing....some of those songs were like positive affirmations in a time of a desperate need for change..we've made some progress but we keep becoming more and more complicated and divided along the way...PEACE....in the 50s the blues cats were moaning about the state of life...nobody listened to them much until discovering them in the 60s and giving them a microphone...we're a work in progress...not a finished product
You're not one of today's conservatives IMO. You ain't a Q'anon, capital storming, melanin hater so...
Well, I know the love fest after 9/11 ended when people started accusing anyone who didn't agree with them with "hating the troops".
again. Its not about pointing fingers of the past. Its about moving forward for the future. or should i just consider this thread a test case on how quickly we can create a divide within an attempt to bring people together?
Those who don't know the past, are doomed to repeat it. That's part of the reason why many people don't just let people gloss over stupid shit anymore. I totally get what your point is, but you can put a pig in a tuxedo, and it's still a pig. Until we decide to deal with what divides us (and admit it), we'll never get over it. I wish we could, but it's like deal with an addict who doesn't admit they're one.
I deal with an addict every day. Again. This thread doesnt have anything to do with ignoring anything. Nothing will ever be perfect in this world and if we dont ease up once in a while until it is, we will never ease up. This isnt about forgetting. This is about setting aside to take a breath. Refresh with positive energy Nd then head back out into the battlefield. All soldiers need to be pulled off the front lines for some rnr. Us citizens and our daily stresses are no different. Your wish can easily be a reality with some discipline.
Sad to say……Okie From Muskogee, Ballad of the Green Berets and Hello Vietnam are three that spring to mind immediately……
