"From what I've been told, they're talking about..."

If I actually trusted SAS to only speak when he has legit sources, I might give that some credence. Another previous report had indicated that Covington was one of the only players the Blazers wouldn't offer, but now they supposedly are?

Cool your jets. This is Screamin A talking.

The only way Philly can take on CJ & Roco financially is if they include at least one of Curry or Thybulle/Maxey along with Ben in the deal. I can see possibly Morey balking at that. And I don't see us trading Roco that easily. There are very few TRUE 3&D versatile forwards in the league and I think we understand his value. This noise is why I posted this idea above.

And not to mention he pretty much glosses over Cov when talking about protecting CJ. The whole premise is nonsensical to begin with. CJ himself acknowledged that he could be traded for Ben in multiple podcasts-- he's a grown man who knows the league. He's the president of the players union. Dude is probably one of the most mature and mentally secure guys in the league. Putting his name him in trade rumors will do nothing for his mentality.

Is it my fault that people are too stupid to see the difference between
"What should the Blazers give up for Simmons?"
    and
"Which team will end up with Simmons?"

Pretty fucking obvious it's not the same fucking topic.

if you give Stephen A credit for actually have a source (probably too much credit), does anybody believe his source would be west coast, as in Portland?

that CJ + RoCo + firsts for Simmons sure looks like the source could be Morey still trying to gin up the return for Simmons. Or possible Simmons' agent trying to grease the wheels for a trade. It sure doesn't look like something that Olshey would offer

another thing, and people more versed in the CBA can't correct this: it sounds like Cleveland is one of the serious suitors for Simmons. Well, in order for Portland to give up firsts for Simmons, they have to get Cleveland to agree to lift the protections on the first traded for Nance. Why would Cleveland agree if they suspected that would give Portland the inside track?

This is bad time of year to make trades of all stars as teams all think they are going to be good going into the next year and many think their draft picks and youngsters will pop.
Chances are Morey doesn't make a trade till down the line when teams are more desperate.

I don't think Cleveland would have to agree if Portland wanted to lift the protections.

    maybe

but it is a contract between the two teams. I'd be surprised if one party can arbitrarily change the terms without the consent of the other

I don't want to give up Roco.

CJ and a First. That's reasonable.

I'd give up CJ and one of Nas/Ant/Elleby/Brown + a 1st. No more than that though
