    Actually, they can both be used as nouns or verbs. Though affect is more often used as a verb and effect a noun.

    Affect used as an action, to influence something or someone is a verb. Affect used as an indicator of someone's visual appearance, being, or expression is a noun.

    Effect as an outcome is a noun. It can also mean to bring about an outcome, a verb.

    It would be great if they could figure out a way for customers to subscribe to one service or one app but get the ability to watch all 82 games.... so maybe its more, such as $40+ a month... and NBA splits proceeds to ESPN, TNT, NBATV, ROOT, etc.

    I suppose it could be a pronoun. It can function by itself and could refer to the falling person...if their name is splat.

    Really just a noun.

    Maybe it will be easier in a basketball context:

    CJ tries to affect Steph’s shot by lunging at him before he can shoot. The sound of the swish and the whistle from the ref calling the foul are the effects of CJ’s effort.
