Currently trying to make my pad a little "smarter".

I have a few lights on wifi switches, may just do wifi-enabled lightbulbs. I have a few Google Home Minis/speakers around...work great actually. Love the one over my bed and in my bathroom.

Thinking of putting a tablet or TV in front of the shitter too. Not sure on that one yet. Maybe a shelf for a tablet that I can put there and take out.

I have been toying with the idea of smarting up my remote house.
Since the Blazer games get more difficult to get in remote locations, Blazer broadcasting is nothing like it once was.

I have a couple of computer controlled radios in the MarAzul, which is currently moored close to Portland and the Station that broadcast Blazer games. Perhaps I can set up a remote logon to the MarAzul computer, tune in the Blazer game and get it over the internet on a local PC in Bandon. Don't need much band width for sound only, so the Frontier DSL line would work!

Not much but its the best I have today.

Sign up for YouTube TV. It has NBC Sports Northwest on it I believe. You can watch that channel anywhere as long as you log into your home location every 3 or 6 months.

Ah! I will give it a try.
But, streaming video over the slow ass DSL line is irritating as hell. It works when it performs up to speed, but it often fall below what is needed.

Next time measure your up/down speed using speedtest.net via mobile and the DSL line. If you watch on your phone they greatly compress the video for mobile.

Helping remodel my family's house and have been trying to add some different things in, smart thermostat, Alexa's, lights, security cams, ect., but it can get real frustrating using multiple platforms. Is there any open source software I can use to manage all my devices in one location or should I just pick one of the bigger companies and still with that?

We just bought a new “smart house”. I can control our ring doorbell, security system, main water shutoff, thermostat, front door lock, garage door, a couple of lights, and a few other items all from the ring app.

That's the obvious benefit of having them all from the same manufacturer. I peicing this together, but it's mostly amazon stuff.

these aren’t all from the same manufacturer. The doorbell cam and security are both ring, everything else is from different manufacturers. And all are somehow tied in/related/supported by Amazon (I had to link my Amazon account to the ring app).

Seems like Amazon is becoming more and more a part of my life and I don't know how I feel about it.

agreed. but I enjoy my smart home, especially since I’m traveling to my Hawaii home so frequently. It’s nice to have my houses with some convenience, protection, and luxury.

No, I’d be broke if I bought everything I listen to on vinyl. I literally listen to every genre under the sun. It’s more of a hobby. I try to find rare or original pressings in good shape. I travel a lot so like to hit the record stores in various cities to see what they’ve got. I dig through estate sales and find gems sometimes also, which is more rewarding.

i was teasing. when I initially started to respond, I actually thought it was El-P I was responding to, in which case my comment would have been serious. I realized it was you and still stuck with my comment.

I love my vinyl. it’s one of the activities my daughters and I do together. We like to search through my records and put them on, listen to music, while chilling in my sports room watching sports on mute. It’s possibly more about the process than the music.

That’s funny, it’s something special between me and my daughter as well. She’s was lullabied to sleep by Rubber Soul probably a thousand times when she was little. I don’t preach politics or any other social issues on my kid at all, but when it comes to The Beatles, there’s definitely been some indoctrination going on.

I have all Wyze everything. Cameras everywhere, except bathroom. Even one under the bed for the cat

I have lights controlled by voice and even fans. Even remote cat treat dispenser for when we are onvacation, even though we have cat sitters come 2x a day (cat needs meds)
