That was a terrific look at a wrinkle of a play but the whining makes listening to this kinda unbearable after a while.

Yep. Dame doesn’t set up for lobs well at all. We all know it. The league knows it and it hasn’t changed. That was a nice play though for sure.

We know what we're doing. We'll continue to succeed by being ourselves.

You mean by explaining how camera angles are used in a professional broadcast of a sporting event? Shit I’m not a cameraman or a director. I pass along the critiques and criticisms to the guy who is though. He loves reading the complaint thread on here.
That dude above respectfully gave you his opinion on what he thought you could do to make your “show” a little bit better and you crack back at him? Really? You’re THAT good at what you do, whatever you consider what it is you’re attempting to do? I wish there were guys on here who edit for a living. I’d love to pick their brains looking for tricks of the trade.
See that’s where you differ. Acknowledging your weaknesses and be willing to change for the better and that will only lead to success in media. Now you can fire back, or maybe realize that I JUST might have an idea of what I’m talking about.

It was a fair piece of advice. Take it or leave it. Here is another one again take it or leave it. Your videos are too long. 45-50 mins max. Pick up the pace and have a time limit on subjects. I personally cannot and know very few who can sit through 2 and a half hours of post game show.

It seemed to come across as well intended and also included positives and well wishes along with the constructive criticisms. I would think we would all want it to go well as it is one of our own trying to make a success out of a topic we all love. If only opinions that only agree with the show's are so immediately slammed, denigrated, or greeted with something akin to, 'well, you don't have to watch', then that would seem to quell the size of ones audience that is trying to be built.

I've been fortunate enough to have a number of friends and clients in the entertainment industry, all the way up to a family member that is the CEO of one of the largest studios in the country. One of the earlier ones was working at the same place as Colin Cowherd's ex-wife before he became the huge success he is today. It was fascinating to watch his career grow and we had some great chats about his philosophy and approach.

So take it for what it's worth @BonesJones. I imagine the large part of us wish you very well, but if not everyone agrees with every last thing you say or post, it is not a personal affront an doesn't necessarily make that person 100% wrong. If you find that "disrespectful", not sure what to do with that.

That's not what I find disrespectful.

This isn't directed to illmatic because what he said was fine and probably well intended, but it gets tiring being criticized for something everyone else in the industry does to a higher extent than us. Theres a massive double standard for guys working for more established outlets compared to guys who habe built something from scratch. The person who's said "Dame can't throw lobs" has outright called people "morons", "flat-earthers", and "neanderthals" for their opinions. But if I make fun of his opinion without insulting him its a problem. That's how it's gone for years.

So I come back here and everyone collectively nitpicks everything we do and tries to tell us how to be successful, and it gets to the point where it feels like some people think they know better than us.

You're basically telling us to revamp our entire show. We know what were doing. Most radio shows are 3 hours. You can easily scrub our stream to certain parts and we have graphics that make it easy to find certain sections. And it's worked. I'm tired of coming back here and getting the feeling that people think we don't know what were doing with this and then I'm being called out and criticized by someone for things that is normal across sports talk and told to completely revamp my successful product when I've made it as easy as I possibly for people with limited time... This stuff is why I hadn't been here in a while, told Eric that he shouldn't even bother posting in this thread anymore, and it's why I asked @SlyPokerDog to deactivate my account. You got people like Wizenheimer who still talks shit about a video I posted years ago. John Lukrofka wouldn't take kindly to this type of criticism either (and hasnt), even though he wants though he wants to act like he does. But I don't know why he's even inserted himself in this conversation in the first place because I don't think that dude wants to see us succeed and I don't think his intentions aren't good.

I ask people I trust for feedback on things we don't do well and things that we can improve on all the time. It's not about thinking we're "too good" or not being willing to acknowledge or focus on any weaknesses.
 
Sounds like it's all figured out then and have your people you can go to for the advice you want. Not sure why you let things bother you then and get so defensive and that isn't meant as disrespectful. Why bother?

I take it my feedback would not be welcomed either? I've listened to a good 5-6 hours and think there are some strengths/weaknesses to the streams.

My biggest question is if this stream has an intended target audiance? All Blazer fans? Certain like-minded Blazer fans? NBA-fans?
 
what turned me off that marang fool was his condescending attitude.

there clearly is a massive for a bball driven postgame show where film is broken down and strategy is discussed (and also where honest opinions are given when the team is trash). when i didn't have cable growing up, i used to religiously listen to the 5th quarter on radio with Jay Allen and the best parts were when Rice would randomly show up and excoriate the team for bad play. that kinda postgame analysis just doesn't exist anymore.

was hoping these guys would assume that role. and they do to an extent. but when convos veer more toward calling people out, it becomes a turn off.

also, you'd hope that feedback is received better than it was-- but as it was unsolicited, i suppose the response is expected.
 
The people I get to chat with in the industry that are varying degrees of the media, or TV or radio hosts, all have one thing in common that has seemed to be an integral part of their success. They are self effacing, thick skinned, easily admit they are wrong at times and even joke about it.....while still being plenty confident in their work. But it takes time to work up to it and they have greatly progressed in their careers. Some of them have even become clients and we've had in-depth conversations to where I've suggested they write a book. Incredible things they have seen and heard.

I just don't get all the push back. If someone is interested enough in what someone does to offer up what they thing might be helpful, I'd think it was a compliment. At least they are paying attention. That is something that can be worked with. Doesn't mean it has to be taken to heart, but maybe there is something to be gleaned from the very audience one is trying to reach.

I guess part of the frustration is we've actually tried to really stay away from giving any negative connotation around any differing opinions no matter how crazy they are for the past few games, and I think we've done a good job of that lately. You said you wished we spent more time breaking down where things went wrong and solutions but that's pretty much what we do for a good hour to start each show... That's all I try and do, it's not an easy thing though, especially when you see anyone with something negative to say about us or the team in real time and you can't filter it out so that you don't see it because it's a YouTube livestream. The easiest reaction is to just clap back because the good majority of people with differing opinions have never respected us or enjoyed our show no matter how respectful we are of them. HCP would come in our live-chat at times and we were very respectful, and then he'd be in here talking shit about our show. That's been my experience so that's why I have a hard time catering to different opinions in a positive way, even though that's the best way to deal with it. I'm human.

Nothing you're saying is wrong at all, I just hope you can understand it from my perspective.

Guess that's why I'm just a YouTuber. From my experience, most people that criticize aren't trying to help. There's a lot of people that wish we'd fail. I actually block almost all of it out and wasn't even reading what was said here until it was brought to me.

Taking my post and pointing it out as pure criticism is one way to handle it and it’s pretty much exactly what the other criticisms are.
Could have just responded directly to me and said “yeah we understand that and we have addressed it in these ways.”
Then you could have said thanks for the feedback and hope you continue to enjoy the videos.
Instead I get called out specifically for a simple preference that I would have.
Jumping through a video you lose context. Things get said that you miss.

That's just the culture of YouTube and social media in general. People want to see you fail because you're doing something they wish they could do. Couple that with anonymity and, well you know.

I personally don't like pre/post game stuff so I'm just not the right audience for you so I have no critquies. But if someone can make some success after starting out on this fucking place, I say go for it. Shut out the noise (easier said than done, as you said, since you see the negative in real time).

I will say though, I don't think HCP is talking "shit" about you or the show. My two cents, which you can throw into the lake if you wish, is just that emotions got involved and you two are opinionated people lol. I dunno why HCP would care since you're not direct competition. Again, my opinion and perspective.

Anyway, keep kicking ass. It's been fun to watch from afar the steady success of what you and hoops are doing.

It's not a simple preference, you're literally telling us to revamp our entire product and cut our show by 60% when Eric respectfully (in this very thread) explained why our shows go as long as they do. If your criticism was "It's hard to watch a full 2 hour show, most people I know don't have the time" then sure! I understand that. But you said "Your videos are too long. 45-50 mins max. Pick up the pace"... There's constructive criticism and then there's telling people what to do.

Appreciate this. I've learned to deal with it much better than I did a couple years ago but it still gets to me and bothers me, so I've just tried to block all of it out.

He's not talking shit in this thread, but when he popped in streams last season I'd see him talking shit in threads that wasn't designed to help us but was designed to bring us down. It was like he was popping in to try to find things to rail on us about when we tried to be as welcoming as possible. It sucked.

Blazer fans who want a detailed and honest breakdown of games, trades, rumors, and the draft. Me and Eric are CBA nerds (as your probably know) and our trade talk stuff is really good in my opinion. We dive deep into each draft.

I do see some general NBA content as well. And I assume the draft stuff is pertinent to the NBA draft as a whole. Do you have any analytics saying you may reach a further "fan base" (i.e. general NBA fans)?

I've wanted to get a general NBA channel started and grown to the point where my draft and free agency streams could take place over there but I don't have the time or the money to pay an editor to help me grow a 2nd channel to that point.

To keep it only positive... Let me say that when you guys really get into CBA related content regarding the Blazers I find that to be your very best stuff. Very few outlets have that level of understanding and/or don't feel it will appeal to their audiance and therefore don't talk about it. The CBA being the center piece to all transactions makes it very important to be discussed.

Looking forward to my mouse pad come May!

I watch & enjoy Blazersuprise. Ive been very impressed with both fellas ability to breakdown games and/or players. I don't expert perfection from sports radio or youtube shows. Personality and knowledge of the subject is the brand, and you guys are building it. So much of sports dialogue is subjective and fun. I commend you Torrey for being so damn young and driven, and HJ seems to be a great show partner/swammy.

Oh I understand. I apologize for that approach.
I was just saying my preference. You guys have a product that works for you.
