huh?

 

Coronavirus is one of the common colds. So catching a cold it can be like a mildly effective vaccine if that varient is similar enough to the strain of covid-19 you're exposed to.

There is a military vaccine in trials now that would protect against infection for all varients of covid-19, as well as many common colds.

 

It makes sense in that the common cold triggers an immune response I guess. A vaccine for the common cold would be cool but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that.

Of course there are multiple viruses which cause the common cold, but in creating a vaccine for all varients of covid-19 we're likely to also protect against many (but not all) varients of the common cold.

 

It's amazing that people continue to think that natural immunity is permanent and just as effective against new variants but vaccines are not.

New studies show that natural immunity to the coronavirus weakens (wanes) over time, and does so faster than immunity provided by COVID-19 vaccination.

• The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report on Oct. 29, 2021, that says getting vaccinated for the coronavirus when you’ve already had COVID-19 significantly enhances your immune protection and further reduces your risk of reinfection.
• A study published in August 2021 indicates that if you had COVID-19 before and are not vaccinated, your risk of getting re-infected is more than two times higher than for those who got vaccinated after having COVID-19.
• Another study published on Nov. 5, 2021, by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) looked at adults hospitalized for COVID-like sickness between January and September 2021. This study found that the chances of these adults testing positive for COVID-19 were 5.49 times higher in unvaccinated people who had COVID-19 in the past than they were for those who had been vaccinated for COVID and had not had an infection before.
• A study from the CDC in September 2021 showed that roughly one-third of those with COVID-19 cases in the study had no apparent natural immunity

• Report 49: Growth, population distribution and immune escape of Omicron in England+ - "Omicron was associated with a 5.41 (95% CI: 4.87-6.00) fold higher risk of reinfection compared with Delta. This suggests relatively low remaining levels of immunity from prior infection."
• Striking antibody evasion manifested by the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 - "Antibodies from people double-vaccinated with any of the four most widely used vaccines—Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson—were significantly less effective at neutralizing the omicron variant compared to the ancestral virus. Antibodies from previously infected individuals were even less likely to neutralize omicron."
• UTMB study shows unvaccinated, natural immunity offers little protection against omicron -
  "This means, if you had COVID in the past, and if you're unvaccinated, protection quickly fades against the omicron variant. The reason why is omicron has many more mutations than previous variants."

 

Covid denier Ron Johnson, who after saying he would only serve two terms in the Senate is running for a third, declared if Republicans get the Senate majority they will demand Dr. Fauci appear for Benghazi style hearings.
