If guns were the problem wouldn't violent crime and murder rates also be highest in those same areas? Doesn't look very consistent... https://www.santarosa-lawyer.com/united-states-crime-map-2017/
Why would you take insane people and associate them with guns? 99.9% of guns are never used in crime or to commit violence. This is not logical. Of course insane people will want things to make them feel powerful, and they'll be most likely to abuse that power. This is part of the reason I support universal healthcare, including mental health, as well as increased access to education and an improved social safety net. These things will allow us to identify and treat troubled people earlier and reduce the poverty driven desperation which is the actual cause of most of the violence and suffering in this country.
Regardless of what they were designed for, the vast majority of guns in the US are not purchased with the intent to kill people. This is backed up by the fact that while everyone in this country is within 1 minutes walking distance to a gun, only a small fraction of guns are ever used to commit a crime, let alone kill anybody. However, nearly everyone who commits a crime with a gun has a mental illness or is in some other way extremely distressed. These people are not hard to find. On the other hand, finding a gun which is likely to be used violently is nearly impossible to do.
We've been over this, though. US violent crime and murder rates have dropped more than either the the UK or Australia since the 90s, when both enacted their sweeping gun control. Since that time the US has more than doubled the number of guns and let the assault weapons ban expire. The same assault weapons ban that made no statistical difference in violent crime or murder rates, or gun crime. And Australia now has more guns than they did before... Cause a sane person doesn't walk into a school board meeting and say she's bringing all her guns and ammo to her child's school.
Right. But the vast majority of guns (literally 99.9%) are owned by sane people who don't do that. The problem is the crazy people, not the gun.
That's fine. As long as people are responsible that's cool. Crazy people like this need to go to jail and have their guns confiscated. We you do shit like that, you lose the right to have those guns.
Completely agree. Crazy and dangerous people should be locked up and not have the same rights as the rest of us.
