Keeping our pick? This might be a Lottery year

Discussion in 'Portland Trail Blazers' started by TBpup, Dec 5, 2021.

?

Make the pick for the Future.....or trade it for 'now'?

  1. One last attempt

  2. Build for the future....one player won't make enough of a difference

  3. Get bad enough to where the pick makes an immediate impact

This guy recently popped onto my radar and Givony has also been tweeting about him today, so I expect him to shoot up the mock drafts.

6'5 swingman with an absolutely pure jumpshot. He's a senior and almost 22 already so I don't expect him to go high lotto, but dude can play.

    Hope Sharpe enters.

Another top talent and would hopefully push guys like AJ Griffin into the 6-9 range.

Really intrigued by Dyson Daniels. More like a late lotto guy. Offense is a pretty big question mark, but has a good feel for the game. Think he's the best on ball defender in the draft from what I've seen. Really good navigating screens, stays connected and overwhelms with his size.

Despite losing two, we are still in the 9th spot, no closer to the 8th. But we have opened some distance between us and 10 and 11; we are now three games ahead of them. Throwing the dice, 4 times in 9th and once in 4th.

I think it's a good thing they are closer to 12th than they are to 9th

All of this shit means nothing to me for 9 1/2 more days. Then I'll be able to figure out if I want the team to be higher in the lotto odds or higher in the standings. It's not too long to wait but the wait is killing me.

I will say again that I hope the Vulcans told Cronin that the rest of this season meaning up until the 10th of February is his interview to get the interim off of his title before they start interviewing external candidates. I hope he feels like he has to make transformative moves to this roster whether that means dumping players for expiring contracts and picks that can either be used in the off season to start a youth rebuild or trade for guys who can help Dame while he's still in his prime... or he takes big swings at big time players to get the ball rolling right now and have some momentum by the time Dame gets back and get some competitive ball in before gearing up for next season and knowing a little of what we have. I hope inaction would be as unacceptable to ownership as it would be to me and many other fans and would result in Cronin being told they're interviewing other people so they can hire someone when the off season starts.

Having someone that still has an interim tag handle our draft especially if we have a lottery pick would be absolutely nuts.

I'm guessing they were referring to the Lottery spot, not the playoff spot.

sorry man...I misread your post. First mistake I've made in 27 years

then I guess a chart of lottery odds goes here:

    upload_2022-2-1_8-57-36.png

this chart was more fun when the Blazers were 6th

I might be wrong, but I'm suspecting you'll be cussing out Cronin on the evening of Feb. 10 for sitting on his hands

The good news is that it would only be the second time in 27 years.

currently have a 20% chance of landing top 4. Only 2.5 games ahead of the #6 spot where we would have a 37% chance of landing top 4.

I love these new lottery odds. Makes it much more tenable to be bad but not unbelievably terrible.

There's definitely a high probability that will be the outcome. Hopefully he takes this opportunity to lock down this job and make a real name for himself as a guy who puts getting his team into a winning situation above winning individual trades. Hopefully he shows us that he understands that the way a roster fits together and the way players complement each other matters. Hopefully him and Chauncey have been discussing just how poorly our personnel fit his defensive philosophies and not to the same extent but also his offensive philosophies for that matter. Hopefully this guy can make this roster make sense. That being said I'm not expecting it, just hoping for it.

So I don't blow a gasket I'm just keeping my expectations low. We trade RoCo, get a worse piece back (probably a 6'3" guard that the team claims can give us a lot of quality minutes at center) without a draft pick and it gets us under the luxury tax. Everything else stays the same.
