we have no obligation to give NO exactly what they need for 50 cents on the dollar when their GM is on a hot seat.

So is Dame. You put Ant and Dame on the court together and you've got the same problems.

Oh, I absolutely agree, but I also think it's highly likely that they would simply walk away at that price (which, of course, is fine as well).

reluctantly? Jones is a young mikal bridges on a rookie deal. That’s not reluctant, that’s praying they’re willing to part with him.

There’s a lot in Ants advanced numbers defensively that should make them confident that he’s gonna be a much better defender than CJ. His pick and roll numbers place him in the top portion of the league. He’s already better at operating screens. As he continues to add strength and experience I think he’ll at least be an average defender.

In his 6+ yrs as a starter and even during his time without Dame, has CJ ever been trapped like Ant has been? I think Ant's ceiling is higher than CJ's. My target is another P&R player that we can pair with Ant on the opposite wing. A John Collins/Julius Randle type, and then you can pair Ant with Dame to get a really potent attack.

I have not seen Hebert Jones play. Nothing in his numbers are particularly impressive other than his 3pt%, although that's only for 2 attempts a game. I have seen people say he's an excellent defender....is that the main attraction?

Well stated. Of course we would love to have him, and CJ is certainly the better player, but it's CJ's contract that is the problem. If CJ were around the $20M range, I imagine the packages we could get back would be much better. In some ways, part of what Portland is getting back is that they no longer have CJ's contract. Other GM's know that. So they don't feel like they have to include much more talent to equate to what CJ can do on the court.

We will most likely 'lose' from a talent standpoint, but may be better from a balance and cap-space standpoint for this Summer.

He's decent for a rookie. But people forget he's 23 and almost a yr older than Ant.

Randall can be had and ATL isn't asking a lot for Collins due to some of their own issues. In Collins case, it just stinks to have to give up assets for someone NeO should have drafted in the first place.

RAPTOR grades out Kenrich Williams as the sixth best defender in the league, third best non big behind Caruso and Thybulle. Should be a primary target imo.

I also am skeptical about Jones' 3pt% sustaining. His college numbers with a much larger sample size were not that great.

Agreed that he wasn't very good in college. What is a good sign, is that when he started shooting more, his percentage went up quite a bit. He doesn't take a lot, but is averaging the same number of attempts his rookie year in the NBA as his senior year in college. There is now a 2-year track record of him being better when he shoots more. He took almost as many per game his senior year as he did his freshman through junior year combined.

He's basically a less explosive, better shooting, Nassir Little. High effort defensively, will push tempo and attack the rim (just not as forcefully as Nas), and can shoot the ball

Anyway you look at it either CJ Simons or Powell at least one but prefer 2 of these guys must go. You can't have 4 guards lists at 6'3 is not winning common nation.

Btw RAPTOR (im gonna annoy myself with how much I reference it) has Herb Jones ranked as the 55th best player in the league based on WAR, tied with Finney Smith. Kenrich is #71.

    some other possible trade targets

    Smart: #36
    Simmons: #37 last season
    Siakam: #92
Turner: #111 (nurk top 20 lol)
    Okoro: #160
    Wood: #170
Grant: #212 (yikes but also dumb role)

Obviously this is just one metric but thought it was interesting anyway.

...seems like Kenny Hustle would do well under the new Billups regime -- and the price would seemingly be low so whatever it takes to be highest bidder would still be worth it. Who else is out there as a top secret defender??
