When you think about it, it kind of makes sense. He's 6'6" like everyone around here seems to want. He plays good D, he hustles, he rebounds, his shot will improve. Dame & CJ Part 2?
He's definitely a better fit than what we've been trying but he's just not good enough at anything... not even close at this point. I know a lot of people think a shooting guard needs to be able to handle the ball but if you have other secondary ball handlers that's not the case. So in my opinion the best candidate on the team right now to start next to Dame in the back court is Nas. He can hit the open three, he can slash, he isn't completely inept and putting the ball on the floor but most importantly he brings all of the defense that Dame doesn't.
Honestly, I want Nas at that spot. I'd love for both Norm and CJ to be dealt for starting-caliber forwards (Grant? Randle? Collins?), and Simons to be retained as a super-sub 6th man combo guard, with Nas starting at the 2, and sliding up to 3 when Dame/Simons play together.
Of course he's not, we need talent around Dame, like All Star talent, not rotation players. With that being said, it’s mind blowing that guys like Elleby or other guys play a better basketball than CJ McCollum or Powell, those guys who are supposed to win games for the Blazers
I was thinking about this same thing. If Portland were to move Powell for Grant, and take a major swing convincing Morey that Simons and CJ (to a 3rd team like NOP to swing assets to Philly) would be the deal to bring in Simmons, would Little work at SG next to Dame? With Simmons as a point forward, you wouldn't need the ball handling at SG as much. The overall shooting of the starting 5 would be my main concern. No chance that it all happens, but would make an interesting and long, team
I’m thinking the question would have to be something along the lines of, “How can we truthfully tell Dame that we’re keeping him and CJ as the starting backcourt, but still trade CJ?”
I'm fully in the keep Dame camp. I want him to stay here, I believe he can win a championship or more here and I want him to retire having only played for the team as the greatest Trail Blazer of all time. That being said if Dame is holding the franchise hostage to keep McCollum's fucking ass in the back court with him, then Dame isn't the dude I think he is and we should ship him out along with everyone else we have that's over 26 and start the youth rebuild tomorrow. I guarantee that even though he wouldn't be able to help them until the playoffs Morey would jizz in his pants and then take Dame for Simmons, Thybulle and probably a first rounder, right now.
That's cool, I don't believe the people in here that keep saying that Dame was making the team keep Stotts or Dame has made the team keep CJ but if Dame is giving out ultimatums that are holding this team back then I would want him gone. The idea has been bandied about in here so much that it makes me a little pissed how people keep baselessly saying it but what would piss me off a lot more is if it was surprisingly true.
