Free agency is a waste of time. We're not going to get a meaningful asset from free agency.

Our assets right now CJ, RoCo, Norm, and maybe Nurk. Those assets are finite. I don't think RoCo or Nurk will be back. Ducking the luxury tax while dumping a key asset would be a horrible mistake. If we trade CJ for essentially cap space, we might as well just blow it up.

wouldn’t be surprised if they did nothing except dip the tax, just because there’s no urgency this season. But to dip the tax they’re still gonna have to trade one of their bigger contracts

who said anything about capspace? im talking about being able to offer a FA a 12 mil deal instead of 5.

There were reports we wanted Oubre last summer, but couldn't come up with the cash because we only had the TPMLE.

I dunno why you are having trouble grasping this.

Yeah, in a lost season, it makes sense to get under the tax. I hope like hell with a good asset. In a soft quick rebuild. Having a lotto pick and full mle is better than no pick and tax mle

for sure, but the problem is:

    upload_2022-2-1_17-14-6.png

that's 111M for 6 players. Assume the tax line is 140M next season. Apron 146M. 30M margin before tax; 36M margin before Apron

the first challenge is to trade RoCo for a 1st AND another expiring contract, because it's it next year salary coming back, that cuts the tax margin to 20M and the apron at 26M. And they would only have 7 players under contract

so then, what is Simons going to get? Similar to Powell? Say 15M first year? What about Nurkic? Same 15M. If they bring back those 2 after trading RoCo for an expiring contract Portland is at the tax line and only 6-7M below the apron. And with only 8 players. They'd need 6 more

they absolutely have to trade CJ for a lot less salary...or Jody Allen will be paying millions in tax

If the mandate is to cut tax obligations for NEXT year, I'm gonna be right there with @Natebishop3 in complaining about this, but this year is just a no-brainer.

Who says he would have even signed with us if we had the TPMLE? Portland is not a free agent destination. Sorry.

Yes let's pay the tax this yr for our 30 win team and bitch about Jody for not wanting to. Y'all are missing the point.

Some 10 day contract players that Blazers missed: Stanley Johnson, Bismack Biyombo, Boogie Cousins

I'm not missing the point. I would like to get under the tax to have it as a tool to sign someone. I think we will all be disappointed on who we can actually get with that as always though.

What’s there to grasp? Kelly Oubre? Shit if only. He was clearly the missing piece right?

the point is that we won’t be able to find a talent as good as the four guys I mentioned in free agency.

Chris Paul, turning 37 in a couple months..balling

Kyle Lowry, turning 36 in a couple months..balling

    Mike Conley, 34...balling

These are just point guards playing right now. Nash was an all star at 37. Kidd was an all star at 36. Billups was an effective starter thru 35. I mean I could go on.
