If senile Lou has any brains that still work he will be a seller. However, his massive ego probably won't allow that to happen.
These next two weeks are going to be torture. The playoff teams in the East are set, I just don't see the Islanders being able to make up enough ground despite having basically 8 games in hand. They had such a horrible start to the season, there is no way they can catch the Bruins or Caps. Those teams (and the ones in front of them) would need to go in reverse and I don't see that happening. Aside from the fact the Islanders would never trade with the Rangers, is there any impactful player that the Rangers could reasonably pursue? The only one I could think of was Pageau until I looked at his contract.
I'd love to have Nelson. Contract aside. The Rangers and Islanders match up great as trade partners. Nelson would fit like a glove here. They would have to retain half his salary or close to it. They need to get younger and add young talent. I would send them Chytil and Jones for Nelson and a second rounder. That would complete our third line.
