Yep. Blow it up and it’s obvious. So we sign Lillard to some stupid super max and then his production declines rapidly or he becomes a player who is more injured in his older years. Then we’re really fucked for years to come.
My thought is he is dull on in tank move. If he waited ww maybe win the okc game. If we go full on tank, we may get top five. Cj, bledsoe as a pay and waive, and that pick could land us an all star caliber player?
ill edit. Sorry. I meant all star caliber. Not mvp caliber. Thinking Simmons, Ingram, etc. Think thats possible? Ant/Dame/Nas/Ingram/Nurk sounds solid, no? and open to shopping nurk as well.
But if they’re looking to blow it up and restart, why would they trade for CJ’s awful contract that has a couple more years on it.
Fair point but also a mirad of possibilities. Maybe its a three team trade putting cj in a better spot? Maybe they aren't in full blow it up but think cj and Hayes and hart is a better mix of talent than what they have? Maybe cj/nurk and our pick for ingram and valleusunas(sp?)
Yeah, it's my understanding that the rumor is that they would be getting CJ to combine with Ingram, Zion and Valanciunas, not trade one of those guys to get him. I'd imagine they are thinking less valuable players like Hart and Hayes or Alexander-Walker and a worthless player like Satoransky plus a first rounder (which they have 11 of that are available to trade... I know they can't trade they're first this year because even though it will likely be theirs they technically traded it to the Hornets and the Lakers pick they supposedly have this year has a very odd protection on it so it would be really weird to trade it).
I think that is what we are witnessing: the complete dismantling of a team. I also don't think it will ever be retooled to be a contender; that is not the priority of the current owners. I think they will build a team on the cheap try to keep seats filled and T-shirts sold and that's it. That is probably what plenty of teams do except those with really committed owners willing to put their necks out to win, out of ego if nothing else. They could offer Dame his extension but by that time it will be obvious to him that they will never be contenders. So he asks out. Money saved and it's "Dame's fault". Jody is not even a "real" owner. She woke up one day with all of this on her plate and goes to a game now and tries to look engaged but she doesn't give a fuck, or she doesn't know how to give a fuck.
He is coming back healthy and RESTED for the first time in years. He has 3-4 years of his prime left, IMO. I'll post it every time.
I really do not understand all the concern over Jody Allen. We are a team that without Dame's injury would have been a low level playoff team - which is what we've been for most of the 35 years we've been owned by Paul Allen and family. We've continued since his death to have one of the highest payrolls in basketball. The problem, in addition to not being a free agent destination, is that we had a GM in charge who could not build a balanced roster to save his life. Jody Allen didn't put him in charge, and no one was calling for him to be fired after 2019. And as for Dame, of course you pay him. He wasn't healthy but still carried us in recent years. Healthy? He'll make any roster competitive.
We shall see. I think he has good basketball left in him. But I think the days of him carrying the team on his back are coming to an end.
Haha so we settle for a shit deal that basically brings back no assets a WEEK before the deadline and we’re supposed to just buy into some argument that fans overvalued those players. lol Meanwhile Clippers front office and fans are rejoicing knowing they got away with highway robbery
Norm has value around the league. A year ago he dropped 40 in a playoff game. He averaged almost 20 a game and plays defense.
Maybe when he comes back he won't have to -as much- if... And its a "feels impossible" if in terms of our front office, we get help around him. Regardless, he will be a top 15-20 player for at least 2 more years, and in my opinion, a couple years more. That being said, a super max in a couple years... I'd be hesitant. Not that I dont think he deserves it because he deserves every dollar he earns, but from a team financial standpoint it's not great. Then again you have to consider the one and only source that's said he wanted that. An out the door butthurt piece of shit olshey. Now, olshey didn't SAY it but we all know who his mouthpiece is. And if you havent noticed, it's never been mentioned since.
If Lillard and Nassir Little were healthy the whole situation would be different. Jody Allen didn't make them injured. The best thing to do now is to tank, but that doesn't mean the team will be crap next year. It should be better with Nassir Little replacing Powell, and who knows what we get from the draft or a trade. The big question is the health of Nassir Little and Damian Lillard.
It's not extremes, river. No one thought he was a young LMA. After all, people were more annoyed they didn't get the value for both trade pieces. Remember, RoCo had interest from multiple teams, so doing the de a week before the deadline is asinine when you realize that . That's just stupid. I highly doubt that Cronin said "guys we got our best offer here no need to call about RoCo anymore". But to say people thought he was a young LMA, sarcastic or not, that doesn't make sense, isn't based on the reality of the situation, nor is it even remotely correct lol. I got what you were trying to do, but it doesn't jive with what we realistically thought.
