Okay okay. Even I can't be that mad at Neil for this. A very rare win. NOW FUCKING TRADE CJ AND PUT NORM AT THE 2.
Wouldn’t really have to be a blowup. You could get Simmons and much more from Philly for Dame. CJ/Norm/RoCo/Simmons/Nurk is a good team
If Philly won't take a reasonable deal for CJ because they're trying to blow up our team and take our best player ever from us... there are a ton of deals out there for Dame that will bring us back just as much value as Simmons. We wouldn't have to blow it up, you're right, but I hope we would.
Yes, indeed. Add Thybulle as our sixth man, with Simons and Little (hopefully) contributing down the road with the draft picks we'd get from the 76ers... I would be excited for the future of that team. Younger, bigger, and much better defensively (even if we are missing out on the Dame awesomeness).
Credit where credit is due. As others have pointed out, this move alone doesn't make us serious contenders - but it is certainly a positive move. Olshey got this one right.
You have to think that nothing else could really start to happen until this happened. Blazers at least know they have what they had to end last season.
I really hope the deal is frontloaded with declining salaries years after years 20-19-18-17-16 would be fantastic.
Trent Jr off to a rough start avg a bit less than 14 PPG and shooting poorly at 37% and 35% from 3 in 31 MPG, Powell avg 14 PPG in 5 less minutes and shooting 45% and 41% from 3
Awesome. And not to take anything away from Trent. Powell is more of a pro. Because he's been a pro longer, and we simply need that more than an up and comer like Trent.
Agreed, we may not. But by then Dame will be gone and having Trent would only help get us worse draft picks. With which we could get a much better player. The timing of this trade could wind up helping both teams win.
Man, what a terrible, flexibility-killing deal. Can't believe Neil hamstring this franchise like this. So glad we've got sell-low Joe around to help us out of this miserable decision. /s
Even with last nights loss the Clippers have a winning record at 6-5 in a very competitive west. This is a year where Paul George walked for nothing, and having zero games played from Kawhi, very impressive. Powell is scoring 26ppg, 53% FG, 51% 3pt. Yeah those numbers will come down, but he shot 44% 3pt last season in 76 games. He's legit making a case this season of being the best guard to play for the Blazers in the last decade. Other Blazers guards records right now; 2-8 Dame 2-7 Brogdon 3-8 CJ 3-8 Ant Appears we decided to retain the worst of the five short guards, and pay him a larger contract than Powell. We got the lowest return of any of those 4 in a trade for Powell which was Eric Bledsoe contract, that is somehow still on our salary cap this season until 2025, and a 2nd round pick named Didi. Powell has by far the most trade value of any of the four today. Just another example the Blazers have given us of how to completely fail at building a team long term.
Ok I didn't realize Didi is still on the Blazers salary cap until 2029!!! That is insane, from Spotrac;
LMAO, you went and dug this up just to make ANOTHER negative post. Powell the best Blazer best guard to play for the Blazers in the last decade? haha thanks for the laughs. All those players with a record you posted (which has nothing to do with individual stats btw so not even sure why you posted that) all have average to below coaches. Doc River being very overrated b4 you call him a championship coach. Ty Lue is one of the best coaches in the league.
And Dopey Joe basically gave him away. The LA Clippers acquired Portland Trail Blazers veterans Norman Powell and Robert Covington in a trade that sent Eric Bledsoe, Justise Winslow, Keon Johnson and a 2025 second-round draft pick to Portland, the teams announced Friday.
