The Paul Allen trust owns the Blazers. It is a very different legal entity than an ownership group or a corporation. A trust can have certain conditions and/or restrictions placed on what happens to the assets in the trust.

You have to remember that PA's first big purchase, first love, as a billionaire was the Blazers. It's not unrealistic that he has placed conditions on what can and can't happen to the Blazers.

I'm personally involved in two family trusts and without going into personal details there are detailed conditions assigned to certain assets and when they can be sold and how those funds can be distributed.

While Jody Allen is head of the PA's trust it doesn't mean she is free to do what she wants with the assets in the trust. It's not like PA wasn't somewhat eccentric, he could have placed conditions that the Seahawks or the Blazers can't be sold until they win a championship. He could have placed a condition that the Blazers can't be sold until his buddy Bert Kolde is dead.

I'm just pointing out that there are a ton of assumptions being made that Jody wants to sell or move the team. She very well might want to but that doesn't mean she can.

Hard to believe anybody still thinks Little is part of the team's future. The guy can't sneeze without ending up in a full body cast.

Right now, I’m rooting for both Blazers and Pels to lose as many games as possible .

I actually like the trade a lot, as I did the previous trade.

The point for both of these moves is to open up cap space. They'll have $60 million-ish to work with this summer along with a $21 million trade exception. Alexander-Walker and Keon Johnson are both good, young talents. Josh Hart can easily slide in as the team's sixth man and bench leader if they want to give Simons a run at SG. If they want to reload, they now have the cap space to go after a Bradley Beal in FA if they want to take a big swing. And there's no point in being a mediocre team in the NBA. This team isn't competing for a championship right now as constructed, so it makes more sense to tear it down, try to get a high lottery slot, and build back from there.

I could be wrong, they could do NOTHING in FA, wind up getting leaped in the lottery, and blowing it on the draft pick. In which case, I would be much more harsh on these moves.

What's all this talk about Hart's fit? He's going to get waived in the Summer.

"No money guaranteed in 2022/23, HoopsHype has learned. His contract becomes guaranteed if not waived by June 25, 2022. "

Its funny when you list the depth chart this way. Its like we cut all of Powell, Roco, CJ, and Nance with nothing in return and you still think theres some sort of hope at contending? You must have thought we were title favorites before the season.

We are rebuilding. The only question is if Dame is months away from traded, or going to ride with the long rebuild like Kobe.

While what you say is true, I'm not sure how it applies to the current situation....unless the terms of the trust require Jody to destroy the value of the franchise and ensure it never has another winning season.

This is a very good, well explained point. Jody may have restrictions we don't know about.

But I'd still say she is the owner of the team, so your prior post was misleading. It's never said in regards to a pro team "xxx Trust" is the owner. We say the most powerful individual. People like Vivek or the Warriors owners or Bucks or 6ers owners all have a ton of minority owners with various powers and restrictions, so none of them are completely free to do 100% what they want either. But they have more power than anyone else, so we rightly so call them the owner. Same as Jody.

I don't think the rebuild will be *that* long, but finding out Dame's appetite for any kind of rebuild and dealing him if he's not interested in it should be a priority. I say that as someone that adores Damian Lillard. The franchise should be willing to accommodate him after all he's given to the Blazers.

Could someone please tell me what we might do with all this beloved "cap space"?

Are we going to sign any free agents? No. Do we re-sign anyone besides Nas and Ant? No. So we have Dame, Ant, Nas, a bunch of clowns, a couple of late first rounders, and that's it.

    Whoop-de-freaking-do.

    Am I missing something?

Yes but you don't just give other teams a bunch of wins without getting more than we did back in return. Clearing up cap space isn't a problem. The problem is we paid a first for Nance just a few months ago and we only got back one first in this deal. Anyway, we'll need good luck in free agency because we've never landed a big name free agent. All of that cap space could be used in lopsided trades but most likely we'll now operate somewhere close to the salary floor for a while. Let the young guys develop. But we need some fucking size.

That wouldn't surprise me. There was a lot of indication in that from some discussions that were had. We'll see what that involves if so.
