I think we could go Bledsoe + NO 1st rounder for Grant and Detroit's 2nd rounder. Seems relatively fair to me and would make Dame happy. Plus, we'd still have the big exception to use this summer/next year.
You missed the original post. "Simons NAW Hart Grant Nurkic That doesn't look anything like the group that lost to Orlando last night. Hell they might even make a run at the playin." Is it still "absolutely laughable?"
I don’t think Grant’s a difference maker. He was good in Denver because he was like the 4th option on that team.
and he's expecting a 4 yr, 112 mil extension this summer. Multiple sources have reported this, and it's so specific that you just have to believe it. We just literally dumped all our contracts to add supposed cap flexibility. Giving Grant that kinda contract would put us right back where we were before, with a less talented roster.
I could see that, assuming they do it in a fashion that doesn't impact our draft position. Maybe as a proof of health for potential free agent signees as well.
Yes--that group, plus the weak bench behind them, would still be one of the worst lineups in the league.
Grant plays the same position as Nassir Little. I would instead trade Nassir Little for Grant, and keep all our other assets. We'd have Simons, and draft picks and whatever else we have to trade for a very good power forward. To me it makes no sense to have Grant or Nassir Little play out of position when we are re-constructing a roster. We already went through that BS with Norman Powell.
He can expect all he wants; I certainly wouldn't give it to him. I'd let him play out his contract and reach free agency in 2023, knowing that if he was a valuable part of an effective reload, then we can offer him more than other suitors, and that if he falls short in his contributions it will depress his market value anyway.
I must have just glossed over this, but Grant has not won a game since Nov 17. Digging deeper, his team has 4 wins and 25 losses in the 29 games he's played. Pistons are 8-17 in the games he's missed. This is after he led them to a 20-52 record last year. Holy hell. You're not giving up a lottery pick for this kinda guy. Sorry.
If that's true, we're going to have a shitty or mediocre at best team next season. Dame Lillard does not by himself make "one of the worst lineups in the league" into a contender.
Little can play 2/3, and Grant is 3/4. Neither would have to play "out of position", since they're both versatile wings.
I think there'd be a lot of good to come out of that. Something for the fans who are going to have to put up with this drek. Something for potential teammates to see. And just him giving it a real lap by himself to test it. I don't think any of that in maybe a quarter or a half in one or two home games would get the Blazers on a winning streak, especially with the supporting cast probably not even being able to win the G-League.
plus Nas, plus whatever FA we sign, plus either an impact draftee or another veteran acquired via trading the pick(s). Must look deeper.
I want winning players. Guys who build good habits and play the right way. Josh Hart is a good example. He's not as talented as guys like Grant, but he contributes to winning. Grant... has not. Obviously, this could be different on a different roster, but I don't see him trying to do anything other than chuck in these games. As a long 6'8 guy, you'd hope he'd average more than 4 rebounds a game on a team without a legit center.
or rather... let's not. I can't handle that kinda losing even in a tanking season. You tend to build bad habits that can carry over. We're not a losing franchise-- i don't want these kinda guys. Ant had a good comment in his postgame yesterday when asked about his opinions on just shooting every time because there are so many opportunities. He replied that those chances aren't going to be there when everyone returns, and he wants to build skills that can complement the regular guys later on. It's the kinda mentality I appreciate in the long run (even if i was imploring to take over yesterday).
I am not in favor of bringing him in if he is expecting that kind of a payday for his net contribution. Screams overpaid, over-entitled role player with delusions of grandeur.
