If we're getting him for Bledsoe and scraps like NAW or Keon in some sorta multi-deal machination... sure. I'd kick the tires on Grant then. But I don't even wanna touch our TPE for Grant, much less that NO lotto pick.
Not that you could, but IF you could just get him for the TPE, you should do it. You think we could possibly get a better player for free or in FA?
It wouldn't just be the TPE obviously. It would be that plus assets for Grant. That TPE is near the top of the list of our assets. I've been looking over player contracts to see who could slot into it. Here are some names that are better than Grant in my estimation: Harrison Barnes, 20.2 mil Randle, 19.8 mil - obviously need to add assets here in case NY wants to dump him. Bojan Bogdanovic - 18.7 mil Turner - 18 mil Bogdan Bogdanovic - 18 mil Isaac - 18 mil. He's kind of a bad fit in the progressive PNW, but a risk possibly worth taking. Anunoby - 16 mil, I'd include the NO pick for him. Smart - 14 mil, Boston would never do it unfortunately.
I think Smart would be a great target for our trade exemption and some draft compensation this summer. Not sure what his value is, but if Boston flames out again they will surely want to try something new, and a trade exemption would allow them to pursue whoever they want. This seems like a Chauncey-style team to me, and I think the length and athleticism would complement Dame well. Plus, you Little, Hart, and Smart are all amazing rebounders for their size, which would offset Grant's issues in that department. Lillard/Smart Simons/Smart/Keon Little/Hart Grant/Hart Nurkic/?
I am not too concerned with the type of injuries Little has had. No major knee or foot problems. I value Nas more than Grant. I am more concerned with Grant's extension demands. But other than that I would love to have him. If Roco can play PF then Grant can as well. Basically the same size. (Grant slightly longer)
Grant and Little can swing between the 3-4 positions with a bit guarding SG's that I don't think its really as much of an issue. They are both defenders as well. The issue with multiple 6'3" guards is what to do with them on defense.
TPE I would do because the vast majority of the time these expire or are worth very little. Yes they can add a player for nothing in theory, but what actual rotational players are acquired with one? Its like the RLEC golden ticket. Maybe you value it higher than me. I still think Grant on an expiring contract could be flipped to a team with cap space in the summer, so we could easily undo the trade if it didn't work out or we preferred a different player.
I very much doubt any of these guys are available for the TPE. So we have to send them other assets, assets which may have contracts, and at that point we can just do a trade of players with the team. Yes the TPE is a tool that in theory could bring talent. But any difference making trade we agree on with another team, will have assets going back and forth, and likely has a way to be constructed without the TPE.
Was this to refute who you replied to? Because dame said he ain't coming back if we going for a pick. And we know that answer.
You don't think in the last summer we could've flipped him for nothing to a team with cap space? I bet we could've. Now if your talking about keeping Grant after next summer into the season I don't see why it matters if his salary is on the cap. All the free agents will be gone at that point. I'd rather have Grant than a TPE. Yeah I still think Roco was worth more than a TPE exception this month.
If you're getting behind Dame and saying we're rebuilding around him then there is no place for Ant because even though Ant is fractionally a better fit with Dame than CJ was he's still a terrible fit. It's mind boggling to me that after the last six seasons so many in here are behind this idea that Dame and Ant are going to be great together. So, Ant for CoJo and Bledsoe for Grant. If that's not good enough for Detroit they can go fuck themselves but we get a really good backup for Dame for next season, a second or third option in Grant and will likely keep the tank going... so hopefully we can get a couple of picks in the early to mid lottery. We would still have like 35M in cap space if we renounced Nurk and Hart... at the same time we could use Nurk and let's just say one of those picks in a three way sign and trade with the Nets and Sixers that sent Nurk, the pick and a big TPE to the Nets, sent Harden to the Sixers and sent Simmons to us. We would then have the MLE to get another meaningful contributor but more importantly we could use the TPE and the lotto pick that we didn't send to the Nets. That might be enough for the Pacers to send us Turner or the Hawks to send us Bogdanovic. Dame, Nas, Simmons, Grant, Turner or Dame, Bogdan, Nas, Grant, Simmons are both contending starting lineups with the MLE as a sixth man and hope that GB3, Keon and/or NAW pop to make our bench even better plus we have the defense and whatever the fuck else Winslow brings and CoJo as a solid backup PG.
unless it's a perennial all-star under 30, I do not want the Blazers to spend any valuable assets on another damn guard; and that TPE is a valuable asset
