Shams on the Logan/Raja pod said that there's gonna be a trade window before the draft where he thinks Portland is going to go hard after Grant.
I wasn't too crazy about Grant but he would be a really good fit in this Chauncey system. He's good defensively. High IQ. Good passer. Athletic. Just needs to get his three point percentage a bit higher.
I like Grant, but it depends on price. Do I wanna give up a lottery pick for him? No, but it feels like its gonna happen.
too much smoke to ignore at this point. If we're including the NO lottery pick, I want us to trade Bledsoe and not the TPE. Not thrilled with it, but I can come around to the idea. Dame-Ant-Nas-Grant-Nurk with Hart/Winslow/draft pick coming off the bench. It's a start.
I have not watched Grant since he has been in Detroit. I was a fan when he was in OKC and Denver. He is long but not tall. I think he can play both forward positions even if he only weighs in at 210 lbs. But the talk about him wanting a huge raise worries me. His current 20 million is about right IMO. Is he really worth more? Is he going to pout if he doesn't get more? IMO he is better than what we have, but not by much. He would help next year's team but would the pick we give up help us more in a couple of years? Could we get a backup center with that pick?
I mean you're only worth what someone is willing to pay. Is there really a team out there that would give him more than 20m per? I cant see anyone topping the contract Denver gave Gordon and his AAV is 20m
I guess you are right. I may be reading too much into the rumors about him being unhappy and wanting an extension with a raise. It all comes down to his attitude and hopefully, they know more about that than any of us. He seems like a good fit but I would like a forward who can create his own shot. Can he?
He can but I wouldnt give him the ball before Dame, Ant, or even Nurk. Hes best as a role player ala Nas-just at the four instead of the three. And I wouldn't worry about him being unhappy, hes tight with Dame and has shown he can play his role. I'm sure that would be discussed with his agent anyway before a move was made. I doubt they would trade for him if he actually wanted to be the first or second option on a team.
To me, Grant is a great third option. I still think we need a legit second option. For instance, if the idea is to really give it one more good shot with Dame, you go hard after Jaylen Brown and now it's Dame/Brown/Grant. That's a pretty solid big three.
Brown would be great, but I'm still not seeing a path for getting him. A Simons S&T would put him in BYC status. How do we match salary on Brown, even if they do consider Simons an acceptable talent swap for Brown (which still seems unlikely to me)? I mean, I guess Simons S&T + Bledsoe could fit the salary requirements, but considering they just dealt for Derrick White, that doesn't seem like it would make a ton of sense for Boston.
IIRC, he would count for his BYC salary for our purposes, but the full salary from Boston's side. If Ant signed for 24M, let's say, he would count for roughly 12 million on our side and the full 24 on Boston's side. Brown is owed 27M, so it works for Boston. For us, we would need to clear 12M of capspace to make the deal work, which is do-able, assuming we give up the TPE. Another way to do it is add Bledsoe on our end, and Boston adds Theis on their side. From our end its 30M outgoing 35M incoming. From Boston's side its 42M incoming and 35M outgoing. Point is, there is definitely ways to make the deal work.
Yeah, I edited my initial post to acknowledge the workability of the BYC deal, but it still doesn't make sense to me from Boston's end as to why they would want to deal Brown for Ant (even with a pick included, as Nate suggests).
I think there are a lot of ways to skin that cat; whether Boston would agree or not is another question another way: start with Ant on a 20M deal. So then 10M going out. Brown salary next season is a shade under 26.7M. That means the Blazers have to come up with 21.3M in salary; and the most Boston could take back is 33.4M. So Boston's end of salary matching is not a problem not a problem say one of the lottery picks is #9. Blazer's pick Boston's choice and sign the player to his max rookie scale after the moratorium. About 6M. Ant + #9 is 16M. Blazers add Winslow's 4.9M and Hughes completes the deal. I know some people will scream and say that's too much to give up, but at least it gives Portland Brown, who would seem to be a great fit
I just see a disconnect here, or at least some imbalance many are arguing that Portland should trade Dame and turn the team over to Simons. "Build around Simons" has been mentioned a bunch. But if Simons is good enough to justify trading away Dame, then he sure should be good enough, especially accompanied by a lottery pick, to convince Boston to trade Brown for Simons
We've already discussed this. If you're Boston and you already have a 1 (Tatum) and a 2 (Brown), you don't risk dealing the 2 for a "maybe" upgrade, but you do risk dealing the 2 for another 1, because we've repeatedly seen teams built on 2 top-10 players be title contenders.
