My mom is going through this exact thing right now, was going to get lasik but ended up with cataract surgery instead. I took the plunge in the summer of 2020, had shredded my last pair of contacts right as the shutdowns happened, couldn't get in to see an eye doctor for an appointment and was annoyed by wearing a mask and it fogging up my glasses. It's seriously the best 4k I've spent on anything. To not have to worry about glasses or contacts when traveling, or just simply at night as I'm falling asleep. I'm still amazed that insurance won't pay anything for it, since it saves them money in the long run but oh well.
i had lasik done about 10 yrs ago. im naturally fidgety and they had to re-apply the pressure (vacuum prior to incision) a few times because i kept moving. My eyes were bloodshot red for like a month because a bunch of blood vessels burst, and i had dry eyes for a good year or so. Also had tons of trouble with seeing stars around headlights while driving at night. don't recommend lasik unless it's a last resort. ( i went to a LASIK PLUS, in indiana)
with the laser. they create a flap in the outer corneal tissue and flip it open to then go in with a second laser to burn off the cornea.
it hasn't. it was largely my fault cuz i kept moving. but i wouldn't have done it again had i the chance not to.
You can get lasik where they flip open the very top layer of your eye, or they can go straight through with a laser. I don’t know what it’s all called. I had a very thin, and “flat” cornea and they didn’t want to pull it open. So they went through it. Worked. Getting it done was a no brainer.
So technology is constantly improving in every area except lasik surgery? Sucks that it went bad for you, but seems to have 99% of people seeing 20/40 and 90% at 20/20. I was hesitant for many years because of the fear something might go wrong, it was definitely a risk/reward situation. For someone like me that wore contacts from the age of 10 to 39, I'm glad to be done with them!
Im totally blind in one eye and have been for 50 years. Im now starting to get a cataract (waterfall in the greek) and night driving is getting tougher. Probably address sometime in 22. Ive also got to address the cocktail onion as a left testicle because every time I go by a hamburger joint, my eyes water and i get an erection.
I had radial keratotomy which is the same procedure, except with a diamond scalpel, and it corrected my astigmatism.
