The Atherton and Santa Monica homes owned by the late Paul Allen went on the market but they are, alas, a wee bit over my price range. My more modest home is in Haywire, aka Hayward. It needs some repairs (they took a chunk off the price accordingly) and some remodel, as the stove, oven and kitchen sink do not meet my high standards. Then painted in interesting colors and replace boring carpet. I hope to move around the end of March and will post housewarming info for anyone who is or will be in my neck of the woods. It is cute, an open kitchen so kitchen, living room and dining room essentially one big room. Lots of storage space. Two bedrooms. One is standard size and one big. Lucia and I don't need that much room to just sleep so we will occupy the smaller bedroom and larger one will be library. I currently have a big stack of books that can't be put away because I can't get more books into bookcases and can't get more bookcases into room! I will now have room for another bookcase. There is what I guess is a dressing room off the big bedroom that has enough room for exercise mat and will be workout space. A very large bathroom with separate shower and big tub. I just learned door won't close. That has to be fixed or guests may be dismayed. There is a second smaller bathroom. As I really only need one pot to piss in, pardon the vulgarity, the smaller bathroom is going to be repurposed into a little room for Lucia. She will have access to entire house, of course, but this will be set up just for her, litter box tucked into shower stall, food and water on counter, toys on shelves, cat perch in the corner. Also laundry room and front & back yards. Both pretty neglected. I will be very busy for a few weeks.
They cleared out previous owner's junk, finally. Left a microwave which I will donate since I have a new one and a plastic Jesus figurine, which I will toss.
Congrats! May you have many happy years in your new home and many happy meals shared with good friends...and of course, the cats.
I know Hayward well. South of Oakland. Latrell Sprewell didn’t live far away, between Fremont and Hayward believe it or not. Like the rest of the Bay Area, no matter where you are it’s $$, but I’m sure you got a good deal, congrats.
Congratulations. Sounds like a good amount of work to do, it will be frustrating at times but exhilarating. Moving and renovation are a lot of work, just remember to enjoy it.
Congratulations! My brother and I put an offer (our third in two weeks) on a duplex just the other day. We've had to get creative with the market the way it is.
