Dug out my three miniature roses. Tops only grow about a foot tall but roots keep growing. Having carried them all the way from Portland in 1990 I want to keep them. Also dug up some cactus and a section of artichoke. Shoveled compost into a sack and tied top. I don't want all the little critters that live in compost getting loose in my car. Toting all to new house tomorrow.
My roof was a total disaster when I bought our house. We made the seller provide a brand new 40 year roof with new flashing and chimney covers.
I will post pictures when all is done. It's going to be colorful. Kitchen/dining/living room all continuous will be turquoise. Library red. Exercise room and bathroom peach. Lucia's room and laundry room emerald green. Our bedroom has fake wood paneling so won't be painted. There will be colorful ornaments.
This afghan will go in living room. I worked on it off and on between projects. It's made of bits and pieces of leftover yarn, with a pattern I made up as I went along.
Showed this to my wife and she thought it was awesome. She makes quilts and afgans and donates them to senior centers, nursing homes or anyone that needs one.
What a day. Got up early and went to store for few necessities. Then to new house to drop off paint for exterior painting and a new roll of toilet paper. Then to Michael's to exchange picture frame that was wrong size. Then Goodwill to drop off suitcase I no longer use full of clothes I no longer wear. Also wanted to donate microwave previous owner left behind since I have a new one but they don't accept microwaves even though it works. I am taking a dead microwave to household hazardous waste drop off Thursday along with paint and other stuff so will add this one. Then went to nursery. Had to change plans; I wanted bamboo but price is insane. They don't have right kind of lemon so that will wait. Got four roses, two flowering maple, some herbs, annuals, raspberry cane, dwarf apple tree, gladioli and seeds and some other stuff I can't remember because I am so tired. Then to Walgreen's to pick up prescription. Quick lunch at home, tomorrow is trash day so after washing dishes took out my bins and also my neighbor's because she is out of town and I told her I'd take care of it. Back to new house to drop off plants. Then tried three stores for stovetop/oven. First one has closed down. Second had stove but not oven. Third had oven but not stove. Then got text from contractor that oven in the oven in the house is actually gas and maybe stove as well. He will do some checking. I haven't cooked with gas in decades. Then home. Made tea and put on pajamas and realized I left two herbs in car because pots they are in are too small and they need repotting. So put shoes back on and got them out of the car. Tomorrow I need to buy 48 hinges and then go plant everything I bought today. I am absolutely beat.
After this day felt justified in mixing a hot toddy. Boiling water, brandy, honey and lemon. Will see if I can take section of bamboo and salvia from current garden. Oh, my feet.
Haven't heard those word in decades. Hot Toddy My granddad used to make those whenever he got a cold, I even talked him into giving me one when I was about 15, smelled so good and taste better. Thanks for jarring my memory. May have to make one now as struggling with allergies.
Replace 1977 tile roof and repair any water damage caused by leaks. Hoping and praying that the current condition doesn't effect the appraisal or closing. Plumbing issues. Snake some pipe, repair a few leaks, check for proper venting and seals. Basement - TBD That should eat through the majority of my remodel fund, so we'll start replacing the garbage t-111 siding wall by wall out of pocket. Luckily the interior only needs minor cosmetic updates.
I can send you over the 87 page inspection report if you'd like haha I'm pretty sure the leaks are because of the vent seals on the 45 year old tile roof, but we will know more once we get keys. But to answer your question, this house is in the West Salem hills. We are going for the "worst house in an amazing neighborhood" purchase.
While crew was painting, I was in front yard planting. Contractor came over and said something like rainbow colored house and all these flowers, was I a flower child back in the day? I told him I like rainbows and got a rainbow welcome mat. He didn't get it.
Ignorance is bliss to some, I guess? I don't think I've ever told this story on here, but I think now is a good time. I grew up with 4 brothers in a small Oregon town. When I was 26 and after attending OSU (say what you will about their diversity) I was looking for a new living situation and a coworker had just begun renting a large house and had an extra room in Portland. The living situation was unique. It was: her, and her girlfriend Her girlfriends sister, and her girlfriend 3 other girls I had only met them a couple of times socially, but knew they were great people. I immediately said yes and I think that decision had a major impact on my perspective as I grew into adulthood. Was it uncomfortable at times? Sure! But as a kid growing up without a sister, I'm glad I did. Those women had a major impact on me. I would not be who I am today if it weren't for those women. Maybe this wasn't the right thread for it, but your comment made me think about how important it is to accept what you don't know. If you want to understand a different perspective, jump in feet first! Alright, I'm running on 3 hours of sleep today, enough outta me!
Would I do it again? At 26, yes. At my current age, no effing way. I wouldn't be able to hang any more.
