Who won the Simmons/Harden trade?

  1. Morey--he was proven right for his refusal to settle

    14.1%
  2. Marks--Nets benefitted greatly from Morey's obsession with all-stars

    47.9%
  3. Both--Blockbuster team made both teams better; they'll probably meet in the playoffs

    16.9%
  4. Neither--Simmons/Harden lack the mentality necessary to elevate a team the way their talent should

    21.1%

Id like to put a vote out for us.
    The Blazers.
We won the trade by not dealing with the two biggest divas the nba has.

I have to go with the Nets on this one. Though I couldn't vote in the poll because the option saying Morey was obsessed with all-stars didn't make sense because he traded one all-star for another.

It makes sense because he refused all other trade offers that would have brought in extra value in exchange for Simmons, and eventually accepted a deal which required him to send out extra value in addition to Simmons. Simmons being an all-star (and Morey's obsession therewith), was why Morey refused better offers before overpaying for Harden.

Yeah, I guess in the sense he didn't want to try to become the first team in decades to win a title with only one all-star. If he was super obsessed with all-stars, he would be trying to add all-stars to his roster, not swap them out.

Don't really have much choice when your all-star refuses to ever play for you.

Their handling of their all-star is part of the reason I can't say they're obsessed with all-stars. If they were obsessed, they would've treated the one they had better in the first place.

I think the Nets won the trade especially with Simmons being younger and them getting additional assets. That said, Morey didn't deserve an outcome even this good. That guy is just ridiculous and it bums me out the Nets bailed him out.

Simmons is going to be so good in Brooklyn

They got a 25 year old all world defender who can guard 5 positions and who’s also an exceptional passer

Probably RoCo. After all, two mid-firsts got him.

Doubt it's dame if he's saying everyone is saying you should trade the guy for 2 picks.
Although I can't picture who else it would be. Ingram?

Given the way Philly has played since this deal, anyone's opinion changed?

My opinion was pure speculation and I thought that Harden would be a good fit on Philly. I still think that Simmons will do a fantastic job in Brooklyn. I also knew that Harden is seven years older than Simmons and not locked into his deal like Simmons is. I also knew that Seth is a good piece and two first rounders that the Nets can now use to upgrade role playing positions are very valuable.

The prediction about Harden seems to be going as I thought. No info on Simmons and until the Kyrie shit gets resolved we really won't know how valuable that trio can be. Short term it definitely looks like the Sixers made a great deal but I think in the long term it won't age so well for Morey... but hey, if they win even one chip then some people will think it's worth it, even if the Nets are contending with the pieces they got in the deal long after Harden and Embiid are playing at a high level.

I was correct in that I didnt think Morey he settle for for fear of Simmons losing value. I thought the opposite that just before trade deadline more teams would up get serious and he would get the type of all star player he wanted. Bingo

As it turns out, the Nets don’t even have to be healthy to work the Sixers.

Such an easy trade to analyze in the moment. No clue why Morey thought this was a good idea.

Harden with another disappearing act when times get tough… who would’ve saw that coming.
