The team hitting the floor right now just isn't talented enough to win games. Most of these guys, not named Ant, Hart, or Winslow, should be in the G League or overseas. I think Watford is becoming a nice , on demand, role player who may develop into a rotation player. Williams is intriguing, but needs refinement of his game. Elleby , has an incredible motor, but needs work on the offensive end to be a reliable role player. But everyone else shouldn't be seeing minutes at all at the NBA level. So the outcomes for the rest of the season are predictable. It's all about the ping pong balls.
I’m not “Whining” about anything. I’m stating facts that this team sucks. Then I’m stating opinion that it might be a whole bunch longer than a bunch of you are expecting before this team gets back to respectability. It’s simple man. Banking on the draft is a bad idea in my book and this coach hasn’t showed me a damn thing. If you think that’s whining then I don’t know what to tell you. The Blazers suck right now. Obviously you’re good with that.
Bah humbug. You, nor I, know what the future holds for this team. Be patient , watch the moves Cronin makes, and with a little luck, our Blazers will be red hot and rollin in the near future. The real world has plenty of doom and gloom. Maybe, just maybe, our Blazers will bring us a ray of sunshine.
They do suck, but that's the point. How do you think teams get top, franchise changing , players in the draft. While a top pick, panning out, isn't guaranteed, The chances it will, are better with a potential top 5 pick. I'd like Cronin to get the chance.
Ive got a buddy in Sac that says that very thing to me ever year, once it appears they have zero chance at contending he jumps on the tank train. Its always this is the year we contend and they havent been to the playoffs since 2006. I give him a hard time about it in fun and he comes back by saying its more important to get that one player than make the playoffs and I tell him that kind of thinking has cursed his team.
How many wins would we need to make the play-in? How many games does it appear we'll win the rest of the season? The huge difference between those two numbers should answer your question.
We can lose twice to the Pelicans so it's very unlikely. Edit: and lose three times to the Spurs, who have already matched Portland's 25 wins. If the Pelicans drop in the standings, it'll be San Antonio that takes their place, not Portland.
Funny. We did something for 10 years and nothing happened. Now we have a hope for a brighter future as a team and you already know we aren't gonna win in a few years? Why even watch the games if you know we aren't going to win in a few years. Seems kind of pointless. I'll let you rephrase your post now, since it was so badly worded. You're welcome.
As players, you play to win the next game. As fans, rooting for losses in hopes of a slight improvement in draft position simply isn't rational.
You stand a good chance of being right, but we don't know the future. We do know the lousy luck the Blazers have had, and the inability to get other stars to come here. From that assumptions are easy street. Again, we don't know the future. We have the best chance for change now. I'm going to choose to be optimistic.
I would not say that moving from the 11th-12th pick, with very little chance of winning the lottery, to 5th-6th place with a much-improved chance of winning a top-4 pick is a "slight improvement." I would say it's a major improvement. In the last lottery, the 7th team moved up to the 4th pick, and the 5th team moved up to the 3rd pick. The Blazers used the #7 pick to trade for Brandon Roy, the #4 pick to trade for Lamarcus Aldridge, and picked Damian Lillard at number 6.
And if we had endured multiple years of tanking, I wouldn't be on board with doing it again. But we're not in that situation. We're in a situation where we're sacrificing one year for the purpose of improving assets for the hope of changing our trajectory. It's a shot worth, despite the naysayers' protestations.
Going to be interesting to see how it all plays out including if there will be a new GM or not before Draft.
If Simons is really coming back, we might make play-in in my opinion. Some of you assume NOP and SA have what it takes to beat us.
Most should assume NOP and SA has what it takes to beat us. We are rolling out the worst roster in the league, boarding the worst roster in NBA history right now. Ant doesn't take the worst roster in the league and make it a playoff team on his own.
So you wonder if the team that beat the Jazz tonight is good enough to hold off the team who lost to the Jazz by 50 because Ant/Winslow could make them a real threat? Happy to wager on this if you really believe it (I suspect you don't).
I do. One game has nothing to do with another and you know that. But it doesn't matter. It turns out Ant is not playing tomorrow.
