Keeping our pick? This might be a Lottery year

Discussion in 'Portland Trail Blazers' started by TBpup, Dec 5, 2021.

?

Make the pick for the Future.....or trade it for 'now'?

  1. One last attempt

  2. Build for the future....one player won't make enough of a difference

  3. Get bad enough to where the pick makes an immediate impact

Good college player. Isn't gonna be a star level scorer in the league and will be questionable defensively. High floor but a lower ceiling compared to guys around him. Have yet to see him create out of pick n roll or impress me with his ball handling/passing ability.

It's only 1 in, but in the last 10 games, the Blazers have as good of, or better record than 11 of 14 teams in the Lottery. We won't win many games, but neither will many of these other teams.

Congratulations to Keegan Murray and the Iowa Hawkeyes defeating Jaden Ivey and Purdue to win their first Big-10 Championship since 2006.

Like Jabari Smith's defense a lot more than Keegan's and he's got more time to develop, but being a tall shooter that doesn't really create easy looks for himself or others is why I have a hard time taking him #1.

Like someone mentioned earlier on the thread though, if Jabari learns how to dribble, he easily could be the most valuable player on this draft.

I think ball handling is one of the tougher skills to develop though and Jabari is starting from a pretty low point.

He's much more skilled and disciplined defensively though. Just needs weight.

Decent lineup in Moda on Thursday.

Duren & Holmgren both in PDX. Unfortunately won't be able to go up to scout these dudes in person.

Thank you for doing that. I trust you more than most and I have a small bet with 3 of my closest college friends. I like kicking their asses and I need all the input I get can since I have not watched many non-Pac12 games this year until these last two weeks.

Sacramento finally gets a win, their 25th. Too bad the Blazers already have made it to 26.
The Kings beat the Bulls at home so maybe they have a chance against Milwaukee, Boston and Phoenix in their next three home games.
After that they have some easier games on the road.

Unfortunately the Blazers don’t have much luck when it comes to top Centers in the draft. Let’s not forget that.

Unless the idea is to get lucky with the ping pong balls and jump into the top-4, we should be thankful to be one spot ahead of Sacramento in the standings. They always pick the wrong guy, so that's one less for us to guess on.

Kings surprise, with a big, unexpected win against the Bulls. Blazers tied in the win column with the Spurs, and only 1 win behind the Kings.

#6 gives them around a 40% higher chance of getting into the Top-4 than being #8, and a 50% higher chance of getting #1.

The issue is the schedule. There are some VERY winnable games coming up that the Blazers need to find a way to come away with losses. Some of these teams are tanking as much as Portland.

12 of the remaining 15 games are against Lottery teams, and 9 of those games are against teams currently with a worse record. This is typically where the Blazers go on a massive winning streak to give false hope going into the Playoffs. The Blazers are only 1.5 games out of the last Play-In spot.

Joe needs to make an executive decision to somehow do what it takes to ensure there are no unnecessary, useless wins. Losing sucks, but the bigger picture is at play here.

I get it but even if he sets the vets, we have enough young players that are scrappy enough and wanting to justify their existence. I see maybe 5/6 wins?

Hunter from Atlanta was the 4th pick in the draft in 2019. Is he the type of player you are hoping we get and is that why Collins is expendable?
Is Hunter that much better than Watford?
