Blazers have a 21 mil TPE. That can be traded for up to 125% of the value + 100K. Other players can’t be included on the outgoing package but picks can. So Blazers could send out TPE + picks and target someone earning up to a tad over 26 million. Any thoughts on who the blazers would be targeting?
THis is correct. Unfortunately can't do the 125%, it's just plus 100k. Some names who fit, either this salary year or next: Harrison Barnes Jerami Grant(next year, he fits by 12K) Randle(this season, next year his salary is too high. Myles Turner Bojan and Bogdan Bogdanovic Caris Levert Jonathan Isaac Joe Harris OG Anunoby Lauri Markanen Marus Smart Christian Wood Likely quite a few others. That's at least in the...interested in acquiring these players category. There's also plenty of guys who maybe their team would send an asset with to move off of that player, and then we're able to use that asset to acquire someone else. Like, NY uses a pick to dump Fournier on us, and then we turn around and use THAT pick instead of ours or Pelicans along with Bledsoe to land Grant or whatever.
So, let's say that the plan is to trade the Blazers' pick for Grant using the TPE, extend Simons & Nurk, use the MLE to add one more FA, and fill in with vets, that gives the Blazers a rotation next season of something like: PG: Dame, Simons, Vet SG: Simons, Hart, Ingles, Johnson SF: Hart, Little, Ingles, Winslow PF: Grant, Watford, Winslow, Brown C: Nurk, FA, Watford Not bad, but a contender? More likely a 4-5 seed, IMO, unless Simons and Little develop quickly into All-Star caliber players.
I’m not a CBA expert but I thought TPE’s over 19.6 mil are tradable up to 125%. Or is that only one type of TPE and not other types?
I’m not a huge grant fan, but with Nas and Nurk playing the 3 and the 5, I think rebounding can be low priority at the 4 if other skills are sufficient.
If were talking giving up the pelicans pick (assuming they even miss the playoffs) I would probably give it up for OG, and that's about it. Isaac would be the other but his injuries are a concern. Somethings gotta break in Toronto though with that OG/Siakam/Barnes trio
I think the (extremely far-fetched) ideal is the Warriors flame out hard and their PE owners get impatient and willing to deal Draymond. We deal our exemption and our NO pick for Jerami Grant before the draft. Then we deal Bledsoe + our better pick (the lottery one) after it is made to Toronto and receive Draymond, GS sends Toronto an extra pick, and GS receives Siakam. Afterwards, we could sign Bamba with MLE. I would love this rotation. Frontcourt looks crowded, but with Nurk and Draymond's injury histories and Grant's ability to play the 3 I don't think it actually would be. Lillard/Williams Simons/Hart/Ingles/Johnson Little/Winslow/Didi Grant/Green/Watford/Brown Nuric/Bamba lineup of death/closers: Lillard/Simons/Hart/Grant/Green Hart's ability to rebound would help cover up small-ball limitations (and playing Grant's weaknesses).
Don't hate it but I don't see a reason to get Green at this point, with his lower back issues, if we also have Grant, Watford, Little, and Winslow on the team. We need a good scoring forward more IMO
I do wonder if an option with the TPE could be to help another team out of the LT, to gain additional assets for ourselves. Dallas, Denver, Milwaukee, Brooklyn, and Miami all have picks in the 20s, and project to likely be in the tax next season. Can we get their pick off of them by taking on salary for a player that could fit in for us, albeit overpaid?
One trade I’d be on board with is Duncan Robinson + their 2022 1st for Bledsoe and our 2022 2nd. That should give them enough money to go after a Lavine or Beal in the summer after clearing $16m. After that, you’d still have your TPE, 2 lottos, a late 1st, and Little to land two forwards. And at the very least, Robinson is an overpaid 6’8 backup 3 for the next 3 years. Personally, I don’t know any other guys among DEN/MIL/BRK/DAL/MIL I’d want to use our TPE on.
Unfortunately, to match Robinson with Bledsoe, we would have to guarantee his salary for next season, which eliminates any savings for them. It'd have to be Robinson into the TPE to do them any benefit.
Harrison Barnes would be a fantastic fit for the Blazers wouldn't he? This season, he's shooting 41% on three pointers, taking 6 free throws a game hitting them at a rate of 83%, and has a true shooting percentage of 63%. He's only missed 5 games. He takes 11 shots per game compared to 15 shots per game for Jerami Grant. He's better than Jeremy Grant in all of the qualitative stats except free throws where they are the same at 83%.
