With the GOP seizingon big-city crime as a top midterm issue, the Democratic think tank Third Way is trying to turn the tables with this provocative finding in a new report, "The Red State Murder Problem":

    • The six states with the highest per-capita murder rates all voted for President Trump in 2020 — as did 8 of the top 10.
    • "Republicans seem to do a much better job of talking about stopping crime than stopping crime," said Jim Kessler, Third Way's EVP for policy, and an author of the report.
Third Way looked at the 2020 murder rates in the 25 states that voted for Donald Trump, compared to the 25 states that voted for Joe Biden:

    • In Trump states, the rate was 8.20 murders per 100,000 residents.
    • In Biden states, the rate was 5.78 murders per 100,000 residents.
    • "These Biden-voting states include the 'crime-is-out-of-control' cities of Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Portland, Baltimore, and Minneapolis," the report notes.
The bottom line: "[Y]ou would think that the increase in murder is a phenomenon found mostly in liberal cities," Third Way says. "But the ... increase in murders is not a liberal cities problem but a national problem."

Excellent. The Dems are piss poor at messaging IMO. They never seem to have the clever catch phrases that the GOP uses - "Contract with America" type stuff. That was brilliant. "Build Back Better"? Meh.

In this case, I might say "They're not called 'red states' for nothing!"

Mom, neighbors break down door to retrieve 7-year-old kidnapped in Tigard, police say

A Tigard mother and her neighbors on Wednesday broke down the door of a suspected kidnapper to save her son, who had been abducted outside their apartment complex, police said.

The boy’s mother called Tigard police about 6:30 p.m. to The Fields, a complex in the 7800 block of Southwest Hunziker Road.

The mother said she was inside her apartment watching her son play outside when she saw a man grab her 7-year-old, take him to another apartment in the complex and lock the door, police said in a news release Thursday.

The mother and some neighbors ran after and kicked down the locked door. The man ran out the back door with the boy then let him go, police said.

James Harman II, 56, was charged with first-degree kidnapping, a Measure 11 crime. He is in custody at Washington County Jail.

Investigators said they believe Harman intended to hurt the boy based on evidence at the scene.

“We recognize the tremendous impact an investigation like this can have on the community’s feeling of safety,” Tigard police said. “We are thankful that serious crimes against children are extremely rare in Tigard. We are also grateful for the quick-actions and watchful eyes of the mother and neighbors involved in this situation.”

Was disappointed to see this news the other day, but shit’s rough these days. Had numerous late-night meals there in my 20’s.

Yeah. But that was based on where we were located that evening. If you were hanging out in the 'burbs, it'd be Shari's or TB (or one of my good buds also wanted Wendy's). If we were downtown, it was the Roxy.

Violent criminals who are arrested with evidence have always been prosecuted.
