I never found dviss over the top. I thought a lot of what he said made sense.
Apparently the fact that I am an atheist is insulting. Oi vey.

Dviss was over the top many times, IMO. To the point that he hurt his cause.

Attacked me several times for not being as extreme as he thought I should be.

Mostly nice guy. Understandably emotional, but quite unreasonable.

Dviss was preaching. Not enough white people are calling out the racism of other white people. If you don't call it out you are condoning it. He was merely enumerating that.

I remember a good friend of mine (he's native/african american) telling me that for some people, they think every comment is about them. I.e., if you say "there are some white people who are racist", they will instantly think that person means them.

I will admit in my younger days I would get defensive when I'd hear that kind of statement. But it wasn't until my friend pointed out that if you're conscious of your actions, and are introspective about it (i.e., you're wondering if it's about you), chances are it's not. And if you read a statement "Man, I hate white people who are oblivious to the shit POC go through on a daily basis" and your initial thought is "yeah, they are getting hosed" instead of "well, I'm not a POC and I struggle, so buck up junior", then that comment is not about you".

Kind of like how you can love the US and realize that we have a long way to go before we are all treated equally, etc.

    Good points, @julius.
Thank God I'm an atheist is a joke I first heard in high school, yet a poster had repeatedly claimed it's an insult directed at him personally.
And look at the responses when I said homophobia and opposition to women's rights are based in male fear. Oh no not me I am not afraid!

It's just all your insinuations (pretty much irrespective of the topics at hand) that get a bit boorish. I'm sure you're super nice in real life, though.

So much better than getting called out for "apparently" singling him out. My bad.

I watched a lot of Disney + this weekend. I haven't noticed any changes to my sexual orientation, but I will be sure to keep the board up to date on any new feelings I am having.

    Yep.

And just like there are there are plenty of homeless folks out there (plenty) who really can't help being homeless, and many ignoramuses simply lump them all together and yell out their car windows, "Get a job you lazy POS!"

For the record, I'm not making a direct comparison between racism and this. Simply responding to your last sentence in a general way.

Totally agree. Like walking on eggshells with him. Even if you were on his side, one slip up or misconstrued word and he’d be pissed

Don't take it personal. If it's said and someone takes it is personal, they may have some things to look at. Be accepting of it. Be understanding. Be open minded. Be conscious. It's out there. You hear it, call it out.

I have never gone to the thought that Dviss was calling me racist, not once. I just listened to what he was saying. I can't ever truly know what people of color go through, and yes they go through some shit. But, I can put myself in their shoes. I can think about how if a police officer pulled me over, what if I had to be afraid? What if I had to wonder if I was going to be shot just for the color of my skin? Even if can't ever truly understand that feeling I can acknowledge that it exists out there. That POC are going through that. That's just one example.

Introspection is good. It's a chance to ask yourself, what can I do? Am I doing enough? Etc. There is always room to learn and to gain better acuity.

Dviss can be loud. He is always clear and upfront with what he has to say. He's very passionate and for some it can be perhaps overwhelming. That's his voice and how he chooses to use it. I respect that.

Again, you didn't vote for Trump. That puts one on a whole 'nother level. Trust me on that.

People that promote any way of thinking, through intimation should be more introspective and willing to conciliate with respect.

I don't know if I'd call it loud as much as I'd say he was just speaking in a tone that lots of people don't like it when a POC speaks that way. People who assume he was being "loud" or "abrasive" are listening defensively. He wasn't speaking any differently than anyone else does, imho. It's just that from some people in our society, people like him are not "allowed" to speak that way, even tho it's perfectly fine when others (white people) do.
