How many miles and how old of a car are you willing to get? The thing is, sometimes it may be cheaper to get a new car due to gas mileage, maintenance costs, etc. Who knows. Never done a police auction, don't know if I'd trust it.

Police auctions may have resellers bidding too.

Fuck, I really don't know. The used car market right now is insane. I imagine anything at a police impound auction that can run and drive is going to sell for big money.

If you buy used right now just know that car will be worth... at almost... I'm guessing as much as 40% less a year from now.

    ...

Because of how crazy the car market is I would tell Carvana you don't want cash, you want the same make a model with similar current miles. I would tell them if they don't want to do that you have no problem telling the State of Oregon Attorney General and the State of Oregon DMV about this entire fiasco.

That would make you whole. Have you looked at what it would cost you to replace your current car with the same year and model here in the NW market? I bet it's more than what you originally purchased the car for.

    THIS^

If Caravana won't help you more than just the buy back I would look at new if you can afford it.

Again, Mrs SPD bought her 2016 Kia Soul in 2017 for $14k, it had 14,000 miles on it. She sold it for $11,500 and it had 89,000 on it. It's currently for sale at Beaverton Kia for $17k. The market is crazy. Anyone who buys that Kia Soul is going to have a car worth $4-5k in 12-18 mos from now when the chip shortage is over. They will be upside over $10k in their used car purchase.

The whole reason I found out the issues with this vehicle was because I wanted to sell it to get rid of my monthly payment. So getting another used car with a payment doesn't really solve my problem. I am probably just going to buy a POS since my commute has been reduced my 95% since buying a house. I'll probably try and hold out on a new car until what you said has passed.

Honestly, I figured Carvana was going to just wait me out. This market is going to put them in Chapter 11 in no time, I'd bet.

Yeah, but in 12-18 months, inflation is going to be 90% and we'll all be unable to afford the cars anyways.

    WOMP WOMP.

Using Lyft Car Rentals, pretty good rates, especially during the weekdays. Renting Monday AM to Friday AM (return Thursday night). Take Lyft to work on Fridays (rental rate is $70 on Fridays, $40 on weekdays)

Damn, could have rented an Audi this whole time.

    https://www.silvercar.com/long-term-car-rental/

I used silvercar to rent an SUV for my wedding weekend, it was great. Audi's are so good. Just don't want to deal with the maintenance on them later.

Every day is leg day when you own an older BMW.

    Haters haha

    I've owned 3 e30 BMW's so I AM the good mechanic!

Also, the one I found is pretty damn cherry. Always garaged. Needs the rear diff rebuilt, but that can be taken care of in a weekend.

Fuck dude I knew there was something special about you. I've owned an e30 for 15 years and my first BMW was a 93 325is.

I had a 1991 E30 318i with the M42 engine, my 2nd favorite daily driver of all time. Planned on keeping it forever but a van driver fell asleep at the wheel, ran into it when I was standing at a red light in north Portland and totalled it. Unfortunately this combination was available only for one year and is rarer than the E30 M3 - so never found a replacement. As nice as the 325i is, it always felt a little nose heavy to me, so I never owned another E30.

Theses were the days, when bmw actually made great sports sedans instead of super fast luxury ones.

Btw, international business trip now, had a Mazda 3 rental last week which is fine, but I got a Kia picanto now for urban parking - and it's the worst new car I have driven in a long time. I had tiny microcar rentals before and the low power does not bother me, but this one has an awful gear change, every time it sketches gears the revs fall like 3000 rpm and it slows down considerably before picking up steam again, pretty dangerous as it is just not consistent and you can not trust it to accelerate properly in traffic.

M3 has always been my "if I hit the lottery" car. One day...

For now, I'm waiting on this guy to go get the title so he can sign it over to me.. excited to be a BMW owner again. Any thoughts what I'm picking up? '94 BMW 325is? Your opinion is respected around here haha
