Biden’s Coronavirus response coordinator addresses overturned travel mask mandate

In an interview with Lester Holt, Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House Covid-19 response coordinator, addresses a federal judge’s decision striking down the CDC’s mask mandate on public transportation. “Public health decisions should be made by public health scientists,” Jha says. He explains why masks are recommended on airplanes, and discusses evidence on mask effectiveness

Had about 20 hours of travel yesterday back from my international business trip. About 1/2 the airplane was unmasked - and it is stupid as hell. Even in business class you are within 1 ft of someone else, in economy you basically have 3 or 4 people next to you within this distance. The filtration system ensures that if you are 4 or 5 ft away from someone that is spreading the disease - you will likely be fine, but if you are within 1 ft of them and they sneeze, you are SOL before the filtration system can do anything about it.

I double masked for the entire time, pretty much. Luckily, my row mate was also masked and we just drank / ate separately - to ensure we are not both unmasked at the same time. The lady across the aisle was not that considerate - so I really minimized the time without a mask. Of course it is not that much different than before - on my way out (when the mask mandate was still on) - the lady next to me nursed her coke for 4 hours - so she was not unmasked only when she was eating drinking, really inconsiderate, but that's the world we live in.

I am glad I had my 2nd booster before leaving - so even if I did get anything - it is unlikely to be too dangerous. I did hear from people I have seen on this trip that some of them did get it even when they were careful - and one of them had a really bad reaction even tho she was vaccinated and boosted.

I can understand removing it outside given the availability of vaccines etc.. - but on a long flight. Stupid as hell.

had it February 2020, 6 weeks “before” it was here. And February 2022. Vax’d late Feb 2021 and second shot late-March 2021, boosted Halloween. Had COVID again in February 2022 and tested positive for 2 full weeks. I wanted to die when I was sick and didn’t know it was COVID in 2020. So much pain and could not even lift my head from a pillow for three full days. Worse than the worst hangover times 10 and over three full days, then low energy and brain fog over two more months.

My Feb 2022 COVID experience, I was low energy and flu-ish symptoms for three days after stomach flu-like bug symptoms or food poisoning-like symptoms for 24 hours, but pretty easy to manage through.

Just got boosted with my second booster a week ago, with no real symptoms there.

Since last Thursday….. @THE HCP has flown from PDX>NYC>MIAMI>DETROIT>PDX>SLC>DALLAS. Leave for Nashville from Dallas Thursday.
Landed in Portland last night about 10pm and flew out this morning to Dallas this morning at 8am……
Only reason I’m sharing is, I’ve spent times in each of these airports. I’d say about 5-10% of people are masking up. Really amazing to think of what we’ve gone through this past 2 years and to see things going back to somewhat “normal”.
