Musk has canceled Tesla orders on people who have said bad things about the company.

Musk denies ‘super-rude’ client his Tesla

If you criticize a company online, you normally get an apologetic response via Twitter. But that wasn’t the case for one Tesla customer who got his order personally cancelled by chief executive Elon Musk after the company was slammed in a blog post.

U.S. venture capitalist Stewart Alsop wrote an open letter two days ago claiming that after a phone call with Musk, his order for a Tesla Model X was cancelled by the billionaire.

“I also hear that you are not comfortable having me own a Tesla car and have cancelled my order for a Tesla Model X,” Alsop said.

It was apparently a response to another blog post that Alsop had written in September at the launch of the Tesla Model X. Alsop complained that the event had started late, the room was stuffed, he didn’t get to see the actual car, Musk presented an “amateur” slide show, and there was too much focus on safety. The investor had also put down a $5,000 deposit.

“It would still be nice if you showed some class and apologized to the people who believe in this product,” Alsop wrote at the time.

Musk responded via Twitter calling Alsop a “super rude customer” and attempted to play down the dispute.

Alsop explained that he had addressed his open letter to Musk because he was hosting the event, adding that in the past when he had criticized BMW, he didn’t have his car recalled.

“I must also admit that I am a little taken aback to be banned by Tesla. When I wrote a blog post about my BMW X1 called ‘My Car Makes Me Feel Stoopid’, the CEO of BMW didn’t take the car back,” Alsop wrote.

The Model X was launched last year after initially being unveiled in 2012 and expected to be shipped in 2013. Tesla delivered just 208 Model X cars last year.

But Tesla isn't viewed as the nation's town square...

Kind of stupid for him to do it, but I'm not sure how relavent it is unless he banned him from Twitter.

I'm not sure if he views it as right from wrong. Rather success/fail.

If he really believes that Twitter should be a town square, doing the wrong thing would mean he failed. If he wants to succeed he'll need to actually set it up in a way that holds all changes accountable with the reviewable record as he has said was his goal.

If that is actually open source it should improve the trust in twitter and therefore improve it as a whole.

It'll be an interesting experiment. But if he fails with it, I think it will be obvious and will result in losing content creators (and thereby users) enmass.

He could do the wrong thing, intentionally, and be very successful. I don’t think people like Musk care how they are successful. If Twitter makes more money or has more followers by letting Trump back, or letting people spread misinformation, that is what will happen under the guise of free speech bullshit.

I don't think it will be successful if that happens. I think getting rid of bots will help reduce misinformation quite a bit.

And he has said he wants the rules to follow US law, so as long as it's following US law it's not really wrong.

Bur if it just becomes a worse place to spend time people will stop going. If it becomes all right wing nut jobs people will leave and it will fail.

Again, I think it will be an interesting experiment.

Trump says he will NOT go back to Twitter after Elon Musk's purchase and will instead start using Truth Social within SEVEN DAYS
    • Tesla's billionaire founder came to an agreement with Twitter's board to purchase the social media platform for $44 billion on Monday
    • Trump reportedly has a good relationship with Musk but did not say when asked by Fox whether the two had spoken about the Twitter purchase
    • Musk's takeover appears to have spurred Trump to renew his focus on his own social media venture, TRUTH Social, which he has only posted on once
    • He claimed TRUTH Social got 'better' response than Twitter but didn't elaborate
    • Trump was banned from Twitter following the January 6 Capitol riot
    • Conservatives and other Trump supporters have been urging Musk, who touted 'free speech' in his announcement, to bring him back onto the platform

Aside from the fact that letting twitter go free of moderation would result in it swiftly devolving into an absolute dumpster fire which would chase off all of the good content creators, costing Musk billions. We have to remember that Twitter already had policies to prevent what it considers dangerous content.

If he goes in and removes those protections and the content leads to a hate crime or insurrection attempt, he could be held personally liable.

His lawyers will not allow him to take that risk.

The marketing will change, but I honestly don't know if he'll be able to go much further than the claims he's made without great risk to himself.

If it becomes a worse place? It's already one of the worst places on the internet to spend any time. I don't care if you're left or right, that place is a cesspool pure and simple. Sure he might make it worse, but let's not pretend like Twitter is not already catering to the lowest common denominators.

For sure. I'm not pretending that at all. There is a reason I don't use Twitter very often.

That's also probably why it has so few active users. If it gets worse rather than better it'll have far fewer users and be a loser for Musk.

I don't have any idea whether you mean Shaun King or Elon Musk.

    But you are correct.

For being a scam artist Musk has done a lot to advance clean energy and space exploration. At a far lower cost than anybody thought possible.
