I guess that is one way to look at it. It could also force the climate change hand a bit faster. We do need to be more energy independent and this could make us get there quicker.

Yeah the US and Canada will be fine on energy. We'll pay among the lowest prices for oil in the world. Like $80 per barrel once we ban exports. The rest of the world will pay more like $170 per barrel.

And China is going to find themselves desperate to work with the US. They import 80% of their food and fuel. Shipping ports are being more and more restricted and instability is going to make nations reduce their exports.

Russia is doing the US a huge favor in showing just how much the world needs us, and how valuable our soft power is.

We don't need to use troops to destroy Russia or China. And now Russia and China both know that.

Bungling Russian FSB agents are mocked for 'planting The Sims games instead of SIM cards' during raid to foil 'assassination' of TV host
    • Russia claimed to have arrested neo-Nazis plotting to kill Putin's propagandist
    • Images of their 'hideout' showed a picture of Hitler and some Swastika t-shirts
    • Also pictured were copies of The Sims video game - sparking speculation that police staged the scene but misunderstood instructions to include phone SIMS
    • Ukraine has denied that its secret service is plotting to kill Vladimir Solovyev
    [IMG]

In an apparent admission of the fumble, a later version of the video published on the FSB's YouTube channel had blurred out the video games along with other items on the bed

Russian state TV is saying they found "an organization of gays and lesbians" in Mariupol supposedly under the control of President Biden and the US Congress. Good reason to destroy the city.

Horseshit. The US Congress is quite incapable of controlling itself, let alone an organization of gays and lesbians in Ukraine.

Unfortunately there is no diplomacy with Russia on this one. Their only chance to remain relavent is to get their neighboring countries under their boot before their own population is too old.

They need Ukraine (all of it) for the prime farm land and ports.

They are desperate. This is no longer about money for them, it's about the survival of Russia. Putin has failed them for too long. They don't have enough skilled people of working/fighting age to maintain their borders and nobody else has it bad off enough to emigrate there...

We need to tie Russia up in the Ukraine as long as possible and support the Ukrainians as much as possible. $33 billion is chump change. Send it!

Yes, it is chump change. And therein lies the problem. America could use 33 billion for homeless, public schools, failing infrastructure, etc. , right here at home. Not sending it to feed war profiteering for some rich military contractor. Will people fight their politicians as hard to get them to act for America(ns), as they do for this war? Hell no. That is messed up logic.

People seem to want to fuel this war further. That seems insane to me.

Helping to fund Ukraine defending itself from Russia is critical. I'm not for war, but I am all about stopping authoritarians like Putin.

America could fully fund solutions for the homeless (we spend more than enough on the homeless now to solve the problem), schools, failing infrastructure, etc.

Helping Ukraine isn't preventing any of that. What is preventing that funding is greed and ignorance.

Fine - what is a realistic, reasonable alternative? What do you honestly think will happen to Ukraine and its people if they surrender tomorrow?

I'm writing a separate thread about that. I've got a major medical problem that's sapping all my strength. Wasn't even able to attend the Blazers game, a religious ritual since 1970.

What's a Blazers game? Some sort of a sporting contest? Or maybe a board game like Candyland?
