The very same people who were saying “That’s just the way he talks. He isn’t a great orator “ about the last president are all in calling This one out every time he stumbles through a sentence.
Oh there are plenty of good reasons to bash Biden. However, his speach impediment is not one of them.
I'm all for free community college but why should tax payers be responsible for a loan that was agreed on to be pay off? I wouldn't expect the government to reimburse me for my payed off college debt from years back or my contributions to my kids and grandkids. My kids that didn't have scholarships were not able to receive much financial aide because my wife and I made too much money.
Tax payers don't pay it. Tax payers screwed up and voted people into office who destroyed public support of education and encouraged a predatory industry that tricks students into huge amounts of inescapable debt. The government paying it off simply wipes the slate clean. Tax payers don't have to pay it, the economy just grows out of the debt. Just like WW2. We didn't pay that debt off, the economy grew out of the debt. Having fewer broke and desperate people is better for society (ie, taxpayers) than having more broke and desperate people.
I guess it wold free up more of their debt to go out and finance a new car, smart phone, vacation and more credit card debt.
If I didn't have student loan payments it would have freed up monthly cash that I would have saved and been able to purchase a home earlier. But that's just me.
Yep. Americans should be free to make choices like that. And the fear of those people claiming bankruptcy keeps those credit agencies at least a little bit more cautious. Tricking kids into massive debt before their prefrontal cortex is attached in the hopes of preventing them from having purchasing power is not something we should strive toward. That is the definition of predatory behavior.
Yeah, imagine without school behind it, walking into a bank at 18 and asking for 25k. No collateral. Also, I don't have a job, and do not plan on getting one this year. Oh also, I'm not going to make any payments this year. ALSO, I'm going to come back every year for the next 3 years after this and ask for the same thing.
I have 6 kids and all have had student loan debt and I helped each one as much as I could. Ive got 3 grandkids in college now and 2 have loans now, and know they are responsible to pay them back over the long haul. They were not tricked and unaware what their obligation would be. I wasn't being lazy in my take just realistic in that they will continue to build up debt as most people do even if their student loan is forgiven.
Yeah, going with the new car, smart phone, vacations, credit card debt had some serious boomer energy. Surprised you didn't throw in going out for coffee and Avocado toast in there.
That is excellent for your kids and grandkids, and you're commendable for helping them. A lot, and I would even argue a majority, of borrows do not have that luxury. Not sure if your kin have gone through any loan consolidation or IDR plans, but that is where a lot of the issues arise. My loan has been sold from one government processer to another a few different times, and each time I get information about how it was because they were found to be predatory. I'm one of the lucky ones that hasn't been screwed over completely, but most aren't.
I’ve heard of lisps and stuttering. I’ve never heard of the ‘I just drank a fifth of vodka’ slurred speech impediment that also makes you completely forget what you’re talking about mid sentence, multiple times during the course of a single presentation. It’s especially interesting that he didn’t seem to suffer from this impediment 5 years ago when he was talking clearly and staying on topic.
I don't get why people morally support debt forgiveness only in special circumstances. All loans are predatory by their nature; they are a profit-making tool born out of a need and a power imbalance. Loans are a product of coercion, and are thus morally wrong. I think Jesus has my back on this one, in case ABM is reading.
Maybe you should actually read up on it. He's dealt with it his entire life. Biden’s Stutter: How a Childhood Battle Shaped His Approach to Life & Politics | President Biden | FRONTLINE | PBS | Official Site
Actually, this is a very uninformed statement. Now if you had said "Some loans are predatory" and "Many are a profit making tool" and "Some institutions use them as a product of coercion which could be construed as morally wrong", then I would agree with it. I'm very in tune with Credit Unions. There is a difference.
