We are not giving up the 7th for Grant. Whether or not Joe's strategy was wise or not, it is doubtful that he is going to abandon it.
And I also doubt it included tanking just for Grant.

Actually I think both of our math was wrong, fwiw. It was just under 46% according to this chart.

Which undercuts my post a lot and I admit I was wrong. It was right about where we expected to land, but I'm still disappointed.

If we get lucky and get Murray at 7 why would we trade for Grant?

    Here’s a wild thought.
Maybe Dame, Chauncey, Cronin and all the others working with the team know a thing or two also?
Maybe they see Jerami Grant as being misused and they feel he would be a much better fit playing with Dame and for Billups?
Maybe he comes here and excels dramatically?
Maybe all this talk on this board is just a bunch of fans that use stats to make their assumptions?
Maybe he is exactly what this team needs?

Grant reminds me of when we traded for RoCo, more excitement than substance.

    Two possible scenarios?
Maybe it will take two years for Murray to become a reliable player.
Second maybe having both of them would give the team some depth at the wing?

It would be nice to have a forward as our #2 scorer.

I feel like I’m pretty connected to what’s going on but I may have taken a nap or something and missed why Grant is such a done deal. A couple media rumors? Damian likes him? What did I miss?

I had that thought as well but assumed it might have some substance. I have read it and heard the possibility on media platforms other than S2.

Getting the #1 pick might have been a way to only be a few trades and free agent signings from contending with Dame.

Now, it's even more of a pipe dream. Probably time to start thinking about Dame trades that make long term sense.

Management that is out of touch with how close the roster is to contend. Dame and Grant are friends. GM that settles for whatever other teams ask. No other great options to add starting talent since we already traded out 3 starters for Didi and Bledsoe. Current team has no use for him or desire to pay super max.

    HYPOTHETICALLY

If Portland can trade 7 for Wood and 15

and land Grant for 15 and change

Then use mid level or whatever on a shooter

    Dame
    Ant
    Grant
    Wood
    Nurk

is a pretty damn good starting lineup

    Hart
    Nas
    FA
    Brown
    Watford

    not a bad bench

I think Jerami Grant is starting to get underrated now. While I definitely wouldn't give up our #7 pick, we should look to add a guy like him. Yes I prefer Siakam and even Simmons, but Grant I believe would be a really good fit. Just don't expect him to a #2 option. He shouldn't be. That's how you get the inefficiency he's displayed this season.

The NBA is all about roles. Zach Randolph was a bad #1 option for Portland and New York, but a terrific #3 like he was Memphis and he made them much better.

Grant is a really good player. Taking him on isn't necessarily even a long term thing. The Bucks pick and Keon should get it done, and maybe one our 2nds.

Dude, I don't think Wood has much value. He's not known to be very good on defense. Yes we see the box scores and they look good, but the rhetoric on him is that he's kind of an empty stats guy with bad defense. I didn't believe in empty stats until I saw Hassan Whiteside in Portland. And I like Hassan.

I wouldn't give 7 for Wood and I'd actually rather Grant. He's a much better fit.

Wood is totally checked out when he's not being fed the ball. He was a big reason they were awful early in the NBA season when he was featured heavily.

Nice stats with being a pretty high usage guy for a big man. But I don't think he's a good fit. Grant would be better for us.

I figure it's possible Cronin did make an offer for Grant at the trade deadline that was refused. Somehow that's been translated to Cronin being fixated on Grant.

I'm just very willing to sell on our future to give Dame an actual chance because for me it's either actually build a contender around Dame or trade Dame for a pick and some young players and build around that and Ant. I don't want any halfass bullshit like Dame, Ant, Hart, Grant, Nurk, Nas, Justise, some bargain basement free agent and whoever does the best out of our young guys. That is some play in fodder that would have no chance of making it past the second round if they could ever even get there.

Maybe he did. It’s just crazy how locked in people get on a guy because of some rumors. I feel like we’ve done this before with players….
