Interestingly enough, quite a few people have compared him to Haliburton.

Side note: Over the last two months of the season he shot like 40% from 3 or something like that. He said he struggled at the beginning because he wasn’t used to the NBA 3pt line.

If only players improved as they got closer to 20 years old with better coaching and natural maturation.

What position is Dyson Daniels going to play in the NBA?
Edit: What position would Dyson Daniels play if he were drafted by the Trail Blazers?

I pulled the below from the link included below. Seems Daniels has been coached up well and massively improved his 3 point shooting.

"Daniels' introduction to the G League, on the other hand, wasn't pretty. He shot 10-of-28 from the field with 6 assists and 11 turnovers in his first three preseason games, looking passive on ball screens, getting stripped in the backcourt repeatedly and simply looking overwhelmed by the speed, length and physicality of the American guards he encountered. Surrounded by a plethora of former or current high-level point guards in G League Ignite head coach Jason Hart, program manager and former All-NBA player Rod Strickland, NBA veteran and Ignite teammate Pooh Jeter and potential No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA draft Scoot Henderson, Daniels was pushed daily in practice and film sessions and was allowed to play through mistakes in games, eventually breaking through and having several spectacular performances as the season moved on that confirmed his status as a lottery pick."

"Daniels' evolution offensively will end up determining how high he should have been drafted when it's all said and done. He struggled to make shots early in the season as he transitioned to the longer NBA 3-point line, but made significant strides as the year moved on, converting 42% of his 3-pointers over the last two months of the G League season. The touch he shows on his jumper, as well as on his buttery floater -- his go-to move right now -- bodes well for his prospects in this department, as does the way coaches and teammates rave about the work ethic and focus he shows off the court."

Part of the reason he flew up draftboards is because he’s now a 6’8 point forward instead of “guard”. He also apparently has been shooting the leather off the ball in workouts, which somewhat goes hand in hand with the notion that he was adjusting to the NBA line. Moreover, he doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective (he played with Scoot, projected top 3 pick next season at PG), is a great defender and solid passer/playmaker.

And if you did decide to move Dame an Ant/Daniels backcourt would be intriguing, as mentioned in the article.

Dyson Daniels was playing against grown men in the g league, kind of pointless to be doing a dive into his stats. It’s all about projection.

    He
He could play the 3 spot for the current iteration of the Blazers (based on his size).

You could also shift him to the 1/2 with Simons if Dame was traded.

    He can guard 1-4.

That was a total of about 30-40 shots.

Small sample but Dyson shot similarly during u19's. Higher volume from 3 is the one notable difference.

Idk, I like Dyson. He's the type of prospect I typically overvalue though. Smooth but on the slow side, smart, competitive. Some big holes defensively. He's in that PJ Dozier bin for me in that respect. He's bigger than all the guys he's getting compared to though. Could easily be 4 position defender.

If he improves the spot up jumper enough to draw closeouts it's pretty easy to envision him being a starter a good team. I'm just low enough on the half court creation/playmaking and off ball defense to not bet on him top 7 or so.

Somebody made the comparison on twitter, but Duren is very similar to freshman Chris Webber physically. Movements are eerily similar. Run nearly the same way. Big soft hands. Both catch everything. Quick and powerful finishers off two feet.

Skillset wise, Chris was the clearly more talented ball handler and further along as a shooter.

I think for this team, he can play that Evan Turner role. Come off the bench as a big guard/forward who can direct the offense. Daniels is a better shooter than Turner so there wouldn’t be concerns with spacing like there was with Turner

The more we hear about potential draftees and potential deals, the more annoyed I get that the Pelicans deal wasn't for the better of their two firsts. We'd be in so much better a position right now if we had both the 7 and the 8 right now.

Yup. Sell Low Joe completely dropped the ball. I have zero confidence in the guy.

I'm clinging on to irrational hope that pain from recent burns motivate the guy to play ball harder.

I’d be happy about the prospect of Dyson Daniels. His offensive package may not be up to speed with Haliburton when he was entering the draft, but he’s a better defender and is taller, and that’s who I have as a player comp for Daniels.

His shooting is going to improve eventually. And I actually think a Dame/Ant/Daniels trio will be better than a Dame/Ant/Hart trio as soon as next year. I haven’t thought much about other teams’ situations, but coming in to learn from an All NBA PG and up-and-coming SG while being coached by a Finals MVP PG has to be one of the best environments for him to step into. If Dame leaves, Ant/Daniels would be a great backcourt. I’d be so happy to have my starting SG be 6’7.5.

At that height though, if his defense translates right away, I can see him being our starting SF as soon as next year. It’d also add Hart to the list of trade-able assets for starting wings.

I’d be happy with Mathurin or Sharpe too though.

I got this feeling about Murray. Please don’t trade outta this draft.
