Im thinking its a good possibility they trade up or trade the pick/pkg for a veteran.

I really think the most likely thing we see is us trading the pick back for two picks (one of which we use in a package to land a vet forward and the other we use) or a vet forward and a pick we use.

I agree. Trade down for two picks. Use one for grant.
My pipe dream scenario is a trade up though.

Stars win. I don't understand why we would want worse picks.

I think the Blazers create an account on S2 and make yet another thread about the seventh pick.

I agree, but I don't think there is a very good chance of a 'star' at #7. Since the Blazers need talent at BOTH forward spots, do what you can to get multiple players to improve your roster. The likelihood of a rookie being a difference maker while Dame is here is very small.

And it's Dame's time that everyone is figuring is being taken into account here, right?

Since we don't have the assets to contend, it's preferable to turn our best chance at adding a star into multiple lesser pieces of mediocrity.

If we trade back I would assume the idea is that the multiple assets would fill multiple holes in a way that has more impact on winning than the single asset did that we could have drafted. That has to be the math on that decision.

I voted for pick a player at #7 as thats what I hope for. I've no idea what they'll actually do.

Go through the process evaluating each guy. Establish who you value, which guys could be difference makers. The top of the draft isn't a supermarket where you go to fill immediate needs, it's where you acquire the most talent you can. These guys are young and developing, who is going to truly ascend? Do whats best for the franchise overall not 2022-3. BPA!

Andrew Wiggins (#1) James Wiseman (#2) Otto Porter (#3).

Those are the three Warriors taken above #7 & yet they're going to the finals for the 6th time in 8 years.

This is a solid draft and a great opportunity to add a major piece... I will be pretty shocked if 3 years from now there aren't several players taken 7 or below who've developed into at least border line All Stars.

Is the objective to win ASAP or to one day contend?

Yes I agree multiple win now highly paid veterans will get more wins in 2022-23. But it won't get the team to contend. A rookie probably won't either, but there is a chance a rookie might one day get the team there. A rookie has a much higher chance to help the Blazers eventually contend than the nearly zero change of a proven good but not great veteran the Blazers are rumored to be targeting.

It appears the team is focusing on winning and continuing mediocrity. Not taking a chance at long term excellence and contending for a title. It's sad many fans have already bought into aiming for mediocrity as well.
