Who think like me? There aren't any in power I can think of who think like me... Maybe Bernie Sanders is about the closest. What part is disingenuous? I'm happy to discuss it.
Dems have the president, the house and a tie in the senate. How are Republicans stopping those things?
By By blocking closure. It used to be standard, senate debates, then votes cloture to end debate and move to vote. Takes 60 votes. Moscow Mitch blocks every cloture vote. So even if a bill has enough votes to pass it can't be voted on.
If he doesn’t know this why are we actually allowing this debate to continue? Seriously this is why I say having conversations about caliber of ammunition and size of gun or even what they look like just muddy the waters.
Every fucking asshole republican politician in Texas said that. We have gone way past “legitimate conversation” when someone goes into a school that HAD armed guards, murdered multiple children while some of those children FRANTICALLY called 911. The only problem is the FUCKING police officers were too scared to go after him because he had AN ASSAULT RIFLE.
Now this idiot needs to be arrested and humiliated. ANOTHER Florida student is arrested on felony charges for posting pictures of himself online with what appeared to be a rifle and the caption: 'Hey Siri, directions to the nearest school' Corey Anderson, 18, posted images of himself online with what appeared to be a handgun, a rifle, and a tactical style vest Anderson, from Lutz, Florida, captioned the picture: 'Hey Siri, directions to the nearest school' On Sunday the teenager was arrested and charged with making a written or electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism He faces 15 years in prison if convicted, and a $10,000 fine - even though the guns were only airsoft weapons https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ng-pictures-rifle-seeking-nearest-school.html
The number and size of exits are determined to facilitate the exit of occupants in case of emergencies such as a fire. This limits the number of occupants that the fire department will allow you to have. In addition small and young children require even more exits than adults. You can't reduce the number of exits unless you want to chance little children being burned alive in a fire. No, reducing the number of exits would be the result of people who know nothing or care nothing about safety.
I learned at Tektronix, and was further supported in that at Boeing, that ridicule is a bad way of teaching someone. You take them aside in private and explain the logic in changing their ways much like you should teach children.
Glad they are catching these threats quickly. I know part of it is, everyone is vigilant right now because Uvalde. I hope these efforts don't wane.
Did they figure out why the guard wasn't there yet? First he was there and exchanged fire with the shooter, then he was there and talked with the shooter, but didn't exchange fire, then wasn't there at all. This needs to cleared up.
It’s not just fire though that is a huge issue. Other types of natural disasters and emergencies can occur. Also the entry issues for those in need when let’s say someone is having a heart attack. Another issue is escape when there is danger such as a broken gas line or chemical release. The whole lock the doors or reduce the amount of exits shows a laughable lack of understanding.
Canada introduces law to freeze handgun sales, ban look-alike toys OTTAWA, May 30 (Reuters) - Canada's government introduced legislation Monday to implement a "national freeze" on the sale and purchase of handguns as part of a gun control package that would also limit magazine capacities and ban some toys that look like guns. The new legislation, which resurrects some measures that were shelved last year amid a national election, comes just a week after a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers in their classroom in Uvalde, Texas. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters the new measures were needed as gun violence was increasing. "We need only look south of the border to know that if we do not take action firmly and rapidly it gets worse and worse and gets more difficult to counter," he said. The handgun freeze would contain exceptions, including for elite sport shooters, Olympic athletes and security guards. Canadians who already own handguns would be allowed to keep them. Authorities do not expect a run on handguns in anticipation of the freeze, in part because they are so heavily regulated already, an official said in a briefing. Canada has stronger gun legislation than the United States but while its gun homicide rate is less than one-fifth the U.S. rate it is higher than that of other rich countries and has been rising. In 2020 it was five times Australia's rate. The rate in each of 2020 and 2017 was the country's highest since at least 1997, according to Statistics Canada. Canada banned the sale and use of some 1,500 models of assault weapons, like the AR-15 rifle, two years ago in the wake of a mass shooting in Portapique, Nova Scotia - a move some firearms owners say they are contesting in court. Speaking alongside Trudeau, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino confirmed the "imminent launch of the initial phase" of a program to buy back and compensate owners of such weapons. While the Liberals have a minority of seats in Parliament, the legislation could pass with the support of the left-leaning New Democratic Party. The planned legislation would prevent anyone subject to a protection order or who has engaged in domestic violence or stalking from obtaining or keeping a firearms license. It will also require long-gun magazines to be permanently altered so they can never hold more than five rounds and will ban the sale and transfer of large-capacity magazines. The new laws would also ban some toys that look like real guns, such as airsoft rifles. Last week Toronto police shot and killed a man carrying a pellet gun. read more "Because they look the same as real firearms, police need to treat them as if they are real. This has led to tragic consequences," Justice Minister David Lametti told reporters. Tom Stamatakis, president of the Canadian Police Association, welcomed some of the moves, such as the "red flag" provisions in the case of domestic violence, and said he would like more information on enforcement and resources for measures such as the handgun freeze. He completely supported a crackdown on fake guns, which he said were a "big challenge." "You cannot distinguish between what's a replica firearm and what's a real firearm, particularly when these incidences involving replica firearms occur often in very dynamic, quickly evolving circumstances." Rod Giltaca, the head of the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights, said the handgun freeze was "absurd." He said authorities were not using the tools they already had to tackle gun violence, such as calling people listed as references on gun license applications. https://www.reuters.com/world/ameri...ng-handguns-2022-05-30/?utm_source=reddit.com
Yep, I'm with you on the politicians and police. We've all agreed on here that reducing the numbers of doors is stupid. I don't believe reducing the number of doors is a goal for anybody. I think what they mean is reducing the number of entrances... A woman in Virginia just took out a guy who was firing an AR15 into a crowd this week. She did it by herself, with her pistol. How many lives were saved? Because an untrained woman was more of a warrior than our police. Those police are scumbags. We need to reform our police in this country. We need to reform our judicial system in this country. Any cop who admits they aren't willing to risk their life to save a kid should be moved to a different field. Any cop who pulls a stunt like these assholes just pulled and and a kid dies should be put in jail.
Good question. How soon do you think we can make that happen? Let's not forget, the CDC has said there are at least 500,000 defensive gun uses per year in America. How many lives would be lost without guns for self defense? But let's go down the "no guns" rabbit hole. How do we get there? How long does it take?
None of this reasoning makes any sense. Nobody is advocating for reducing the number of exits as far as I have seen, nor would it be allowed under code. Making this a rallying cry of some kind just looks like playing politics.
