I was actually leaning towards Johnson......until I took a much closer look at her stances on various issues. She's nothing but a Republican running unaffiliated but it was her recalcitrant stance on Second Amendment "rights" that woke me up. No way on God's green earth would I vote for that wolf in sheep's clothing......
Pro-Gun Rights as a State Senator, Betsy Johnson Is Now Open to Gun Control in Her Bid for Governor FWIW I don't trust her either, and her flipflopping doesn't make it any easier.
Sure, that's exactly what's happening here. I guess my comment insinuated that I trust any politician, which I do not.
Lot of bad publicity, especially about guns, at a time when that is especially relevant. And with people who are tied in.
I listened to an interview with Johnson yesterday and outside of her stance on guns I seemed to like her. Tough cookie. Kotex seems like Kate Brown part 2. but I’m a Washington resident so it’s all moot.
Many of my Dem fam & friends like her too. My youngest daughter said “she reminds me of grandpa’s dem party”.
Betsy is doing the hot button issues thing. Commercial showing her driving through a homeless camp saying "No More Tent Cities". I would like to hear how she plans to get rid of them? I would also like to know if she knows the obstacles in front of her trying to get a population of people who don't want to move out of their tents to actually move. I wonder if she knows that Pan Handling is one of the major problems we have right now? Notice how most of the worst homeless tent areas are closest to areas where they can pan handle. Right next to freeway on and off ramps is one of the many favorite places.
Hopefully these candidates are asking themselves why the homeless encampments generally end at the Portland city limits. Yes, there are pockets pretty much everywhere, but why do Clackamas and Washington Counties seem to have a better handle on the issue? I know my community is good about offering them resources, but local law enforcement very much "encourages" them to spend the majority of their time elsewhere when they aren't accessing those resources. They may not want to leave, but apparently our local government gives them less choice than Portland does(?). In some ways it is obviously a lack of political will. That is an oversimplification, but shit like that happens when you become a People's Republic.........
I am a lifelong Democrat, but no way I am voting for Tina Kotek. It’s unfortunate because Betsy Johnson seems like the only reasonable alternative to her. But it is what it is, I am voting Betsy even when I disagree with her on some of the major issues, I just cant stand Tina Kotek. She is all the things I do not like about the modern Democratic party rolled into one person, ugh.
Actually I got the opportunity to show her around my work and talk to her for an extended period of time. She’s really sharp and has a very solid plan for the state.
