Well, was it the knifes fault when the guy killed those people on the max train in Portland?

No, it was the guy's fault, and the system that helped him hide.

Hawaii also has higher gun ownership rates than the continental US.

So, some evidence that more guns doesn't necessarily = more gun death.

Nobody thinks there will be no more deaths ever. No one thinks a stabbing or a murder in some form will stop. Now if someone builds a super duper big boy knife with 50 blades that all protrude out and extend 100 feet all within seconds then yes. It will be the knifes fault.

Point taken. But doesn't that seem quite extreme compared to the guns people are currently allowed to buy? Over 99% of which are never used to hurt anybody or commit any crime, and all have the same or less capabilities as hunting rifles, which are also responsible for far less than 1% of gun deaths...

If it were the guns fault wouldn't Hawaii have higher gun death rates than the rest of the US, since it has more guns per capita than the rest of the US?

For those of us who don’t have any pie in the sky dreams about removing all guns, but instead believe in much stricter and thorough gun regulations, then Hawaii appears to be an example of what to do. I believe in EXTREMELY harsh and essentially burdensome gun regs. So you can have or buy a gun but it’s very difficult and not for just anyone. That includes gun safety, holding owners responsible for gun crimes done by someone else, training, education, limit ammo purchases, age limits wayyyyy higher, and harsh penalties for ANY gun related crime (stolen guns, etc)

Yeah it was a "Well Regulated Militia" that attacked that school and killed 19 people (Mostly Children).
Of course if they want to argue that was not a "well regulated militia" then maybe they already know the difference?

I believe it is unknown how proficient they were... We'd need to know that information to know how well regulated their skills were.

Of course, improving those capabilites would come from regular practice...

I believe it's also unknown if they were a part of a specific militia or not, or if their regular or irregular use impacted said status...

Gun people ALWAYS bring up the “knife thing”

Fucking bring it with the knives! Fucking bring ‘em! I will take my chances with a dude with a knife!

I wonder if the gun lovers in here will ever look at these daily mass murders and for once just go…..” Yeah, maybe if there weren’t guns in the situation things might have turned out better.”

That wasn't the discussion. The discussion was, was it the knife's fault?

In both cases, if it were the tool's fault, does that mean the people are blameless?

Why would we start dreaming about fairy tails? How could that possibly help anything?

"End Violence" would seem much better, IMO.

But I don't get myself wrapped up on hating inanimate objects...

That seems contradictory to @andalusian 's chart about household gun ownership. If both your and his statements are true, it must mean that gun ownership in HI is very concentrated, i.e. a few people own a lot of guns.

More guns wouldn't necessarily mean more gun deaths in that case - one person can fire only so many guns at once (I think the number is two?).

I've been stabbed with a knife. I'll take a knife over a bullet any day.

I'd rather be stabbed by a bullet than a knife. I don't want to be shot with either a bullet or a knife.

It was the racist asshole killers fault for sure. Also unfortunate, that those killed weren't vigilant about the possiblity of dude having weapons.

An OTF knife being used is far rarer than say an AR-15 being used. But, yeah.

It’s actually a win for gun control. He was a convicted Felon and was not allowed to have a gun. Think of the carnage if he did have a gun?

This was a bad Avenue for a gun supporter to take but of course that is never the way they look at it. Usually first thing you hear is if someone had a gun they could have stopped him.
Again a very closed sighted way to look at things.
