CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Two of the top runners in Auburn history will come face-to-face for the first time this weekend when Stephen Davis and the Carolina Panthers play Cadillac Williams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.By the time Sunday's game is over, Davis fully expects to be recognized as the best Auburn running back in the league right now."Auburn running backs, we have some good ones in the league right now," Davis said Thursday. When pressed to say who is the best, he didn't hesitate: "Shoot, me. Did you think I was going to say one of them?"It's hard to compare which of the two is having a better season.Davis, in his 10th season and coming off major knee surgery last year, has a disappointing 358 yard rushing through seven games. But his nine rushing touchdowns rank third in the NFL.Williams, a rookie, became the first player in NFL history to begin his career with three consecutive 100-yard rushing games. But he sprained his left foot Sept. 18, missed two games and was ineffective last week against San Francisco. In five games this season, Williams has 467 yards but just two touchdowns. But Williams has the edge in Auburn's history books: He finished second on the Tigers' career rushing list with 3,831 yards, and broke Bo Jackson's school record for touchdowns with 46 ? 45 of them on the ground.Davis is now fifth on the list with 2,811 yards, behind Joe Cribbs, Williams, James Brooks and Jackson. When asked to rank Auburn's all-time greats, Davis put Jackson first, himself second and Cribbs third. He didn't mention Williams. He also thinks that Williams and fellow rookie running back Ronnie Brown of Miami owe him a bit of gratitude for paving the road to the NFL."I opened the door for them," he said. "If you look at it, me and (Cincinnati's) Rudi Johnson were the last running backs that were drafted before they got there and up until now."The thing is, if you're a running back at Auburn, it's a great opportunity."

You can tell by the article that he was saying everything jokingly, I don't get the impression that he is BASHING on him or anything. You know?

I wouldn't say Davis is having a disappointing season. Like the article said he only has 358 rushing yards, but he isn't the kind of back who gets 100 yard games consistently. He could've been that guy but he's too injury prone now so they rely on pounding it with him which is just fine. His nine TD's are not disappointing at all.

He'll get the big plays for you, and use him in the redzone.

It's good, they just want to hype up the game.
