A sequel to Todd Phillips Joker is in the works. Joaquin Phoenix's Joker will be joined by Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga. It will also be a musical.
Hello, This all sounds fantastic until you said… musical. i must ask. Is that your joke on us or is that true? I find it hard to believe Hollywood would actually think a musical would go over well. A musical was tried on the Elton John movie who is a musician and that flopped! If this is true, I am right with Mr.Slydog below. Eeeeewwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not being a Joker, it's true. It's supposed to be a musical. I heard Lady Gaga was going to be Harley Quinn and I was excited...then I heard musical and I shook my head. He does a lot of dancing to music in the first one. But, to have him and other characters singing? I doubt there will be a Batman...but a singing Batman would be weirder than a singing Joker. Is it going to be an acidic nightmare/dream sequences of the Joker murdering people and waxing poetic about how depressed he is?
I enjoyed Rocketman. Dreamgirls was fucking awesome! Amazing casting! La La Land was a big pile of meh.
She would make a fantastic Harley Quinn, really the perfect actress to put next to Joaquin Phoenix. Could be a hell of a movie.
I will give rocket man another shot. I own it but didn't make it through the first half hour. Not a fan if musicals really.
Rocketman worked because it's a (pseudo) biopic of a person who sang, and incorporates singing certain songs into a way of storytelling. It worked because Bernie and Elton had stories to their songs. Joker as a musical seems more like a stretch, and doesn't seem to make sense based on the previous movie. Yeah, lady Gaga can sing, and Joaquin was impressive in the Johnny Cash movie (tho it wasn't a musical)...and yes there have been musicals made for tv shows that didn't necessarily make sense ( Scrubs and Psych come to mind, and a couple episodes of Northern Exposure where Shelly sang)...but they were comedies and each made sense in the the context of the show. Like in the case of Scrubs it was from the perspective of a patient who had a brain injury, and in Northern Exposure, Shelly was pregnant and the show had always done things a little quirky. It could work, if they explain it as the Joker having some kind of mental issue where he only heard people singing or something. But it just seems like Joaquin said "yeah. I'll do a a second joker IF you get Lady Gaga and....make it a musical!" Thinking there was no way they would do it.
