This does make me wonder if John Collins is a good fit with Lillard. Throw in Ant on that roster and I lean from slightly to strongly say no. It would have many of the problems of the Dame/CJ/Melo trio. Dame needs defenders in the frontcourt who have enough offensive skill to keep the defense from trapping. They don't need 20+ ppg scoring forwards. The best Blazers rosters have been with Aminu and Harkless at forward. If the Blazers can get those types of defensive players at a more acceptable starting level quality maybe they can build something with Dame. Trading the #7 pick directly or indirectly for a new version of the Dame/CJ/Melo experiment would be a huge mistake.
Collins is 24. Are we talking about a 24-year-old Melo? I would take that. Seriously though what if Hart starts with Dame and Collins and either Winslow/Little? Simons can come off the bench and still get his minutes.
Ask the question on whoever we draft or trade for whether he is a CHAUNCEY type player? I think Billups has a lot of input on who gets drafted or traded for or away
Fischer: https://bleacherreport.com/articles...en-will-sign-short-term-extension-with-sixers Portland does not appear to be a legitimate landing spot for restricted free agent Deandre Ayton, sources said. The Trail Blazers are expected to retain starting center Jusuf Nurkic, and they are prioritizing Toronto Raptors swingman OG Anunoby in any return for the No. 7 pick in next week's draft, sources said. But there has been increasing talk about Portland potentially targeting the seventh selection to Oklahoma City for No. 12 and a package that could include Lu Dort. One early candidate to fall in the lottery: Shaedon Sharpe. After not playing at Kentucky, Sharpe has been said to underwhelm multiple teams in pre-draft workouts. His range may begin with the New Orleans Pelicans at No. 8, but Sharpe could also feasibly be the target for any team that trades with Portland for the No. 7 pick.
Dort could potentially make Hart expendable but is still a bit uninspiring for those of us who want size on the wings. His offense is a complete question mark but he's a tenacious defender at the guard positions. It's easy to see a scenario where he gets around 30 mpg off the bench
I like Dort but do we need more guards? Wonder if Detroit would take Dort for Grant? Or sign and trade Simons to Detroit for Grant, keep Dort who is a very good defender to play SG with Hart? Wonder what pick Dort is worth by himself?
Kenrich Williams is an interesting SF from OKC, yest he is 27 but a helluva defender and decent 3 pt shooter - glue guy. How about 7 for 12 and Kenrich Williams and #34?
No way I am trading Simons for Grant. We do need some offense. But yeah Dort and Winslow might be a bit of duplication. If they feel good about Winslow's health I would rather have him. (A little longer, heavier and can also guard PFs)
I just wonder how much of this is smoke because teams are hoping he will fall. He very well might be underwhelming. We don't know much about him at this point, but I also wonder if teams are trying to use that in their favor by saying he's not that great.
I wonder how Chauncey views Keon. Yes, he is still unproven but does he have as much potential as some of these other guards? He would know best.
@BonesJones mentioned Williams as a decent under-the-radar trade target in one of his recent youtube videos.
So Dallas traded a bag of popcorns and got Bertans, Dinwidee and now Wood. Now that’s a great GM. Can Smokin Joe Cronin get some players without giving #7 pick? We shall see.
I don't think it is just our management either. I read some good things about him that came out before the draft.
Just say no to moving pick #7 for role players. Hold onto your shorts. Joe is supposed to wow us this offseason!
Hey, just one week and we can change the discussion from trashing Cronin for what he may or may not do in this year’s draft to trashing Cronin for what he did do in this year’s draft. Good times!
Our dumbass gm needs a lesson from George. PG getting covid made us lose the best trade chip we had this summer. Beyond idiotic and incredibly risky. Talking of trading down from 7 just to recoup some assets that we lost if not the way to go.
