I dont think lu dort is all that. Hes a role player with limitations. To say Keon could project to be that... Is not the same as saying he can be a star.
lu dort is a legit all nba type defender on a better team, definitely one of the best perimeter defenders in the nba. And he’s improved offensively every season. He’s a star in his role. If Keon gets to that level, that’d be quite the feat.
Dort and 12 makes no sense to me unless we have already struck out on every other possibility. Collins for 7 is a way better deal
Dort looks the part but his advanced defensive numbers are not great. 30mpg player in the regular season but probably would get played off the floor like Thybulle did last month when teams key in on lineups. And his offensive production so far has correlated perfectly with increased usage. It would worry me to think that OKC readily gives him up to move up 5 spots. I think Hart is a far superior player.
Dort is a free agent next year and OKC is rebuilding. He’s not a feature player, so it would make sense to use him to move up in the draft to try and get someone with more upside. But Dort would be a star role player, which every playoff team needs.
given how we are also rebuilding, we should be thinking more like OKC then and try to use a role player in a trade to get someone with more upside.
Dort is a legit defensive menace. Unique size: 6’4.25” (w/shoes) and 228 lbs. Young - just turned 23. He can guard 1/2/3 — I’d do this deal.
I'd happily give up 7 + anyone on our roster not named Dame/Ant ( and take on bad contracts) to get Paolo. This should be our mindset. Not trading down.
Our ceiling with dort on our team taking minutes from Ant, Little, and Hart while not filling our gaping holes at 3/4 is a 41 win team.
Could be talked into it if Orlando throws in Isaac. A Dame-paolo/smith duo is the high ceiling pairing that we could build around.
It would be so Blazers to use our first top 10 pick in 10 years to trade down and collect a 4th guard.
Star role player bullshit is the same thing people were saying when we traded for dudes like Roco and Nance. We aren't a small piece away. We need top talent, not role players. Trading away #7 for anything less than a star player is so stupid.
