then we would have to trade ant and other assets for forward both ant and lu dort are guards, having one of them on the bench makes no sense
i don't think people realize how far away we are from contending. Dort is more like the icing on top. We don't yet have the base of the cake yet. (channeling my inner KP to an extent with this analogy)
Dort is the type of player you pick up when you are contending. Portland is on step one of say a seven step rebuild. Dort would be step six. He has no business on a rebuilding Portland team until steps 1-5 have been completed.
we aren’t on step 1 since we have Dame. But I agree, we are on step 3-4 of 7. Until you’re at level 6-7, you focus on stars or potential stars, not the dorts and grants of the league. They will always be available for future firsts when you need them.
I am getting SICK and tired of the Blazers being linked to SMALL guards --- I have nothing against Dort but the Blazers need to stop with this fetish for getting more small guards IF the rumor is true. --- This is such a crazy time and when all is said and done the Blazers MIGHT end up with one of the names that are always linked too them but my gut says someone we NEVER saw coming will be a Blazer too . Made a edit to post cause I read it quickly and thought it was talking a 3 way deal but after re-reading just the Blazers getting Dort. If rumor true and the Blazers better have a lot more up there sleeves if they think this will get Dame a ring or at least a decent chance at one.
The funny thing is, I was just told last week nobody around here thinks we are close to contending. Thinking about acquiring dudes like Dort, Grant, OG etc. Are all nice pieces to have. I wouldn't trade the #7 pick for any of them though. It will just have us firmly in purgatory.
So the plan would be to to have a lineup of Dame/Hart/Winslow/Collins/Nurk? Then have Simons off the bench. That isn't a contending team. I'm not sure they even make the playoffs, maybe they get to the playin as the Hawks did. So I wouldn't want the Blazers to give up draft picks, especially the #7 pick if that is the roster we end up with.
Yeah those are 5th/6th type of options to build a contender. We might have option 4. We need options 2 and 3.
At least when we added Roco/Nance they were part of getting the 5th starter/6th man for a playoff team. These Dort/Grant/OG/Collins moves for #7 would be much worse than Roco or Nance. It makes absolutely no sense to trade 4 starters away for Hart, then trade away our good picks for 1 or 2 similarly skilled starters. The Blazers will be worse than they were last year, and lose all their picks as well.
Well, to be more precise, it would be Dame/Hart/Winslow/Collins/Nurk, plus Ant/Nas, plus whoever we sign with the MLE, plus whoever we trade for with the TPE. Decent chance it could end up as Dame/Hart/Grant/Collins/Nurk, plus Ant/Nas/Winslow/(Bryant/Bamba/Smith/Boucher--whoever they can get with the MLE). That's a good team. I'd like it better if we could accomplish that while also adding a lottery-pick draftee, but I wouldn't be upset about that squad.
I'd think the goal should be to build a contender, right? Adding Dort to a roster with Dame/Simons/Hart and not much else doesn't get the team any closer. Losing the #7 pick, or trading down, gets them far further away from contending.
I like Little. I am not buying into his injuries are any more of an issue than say, Grant or Collins. So I would plug him in at SF. But to your point, no it's not a contender. And adding Grant and his salary probably does not get us any closer either. (If we get Collins) So the debate in my mind is a 24-year-old Collins? Or #7 and Grant. But not Grant and Collins)
I'll also say that in a vacuum, that would essentially equate to having traded CJ/Norm/Roco/Nance/22#1 for Hart/Grant/Winslow/Collins/21#1 (Keon). All-in-all, that's about equal value.
the assumption here being that all those guys would actually be on the roster together. All I know is Dort is a stud, and if I got to choose between him and Hart I would choose Dort
