Obviously this would be two trades. The first one with the Knicks on draft night and the second with the Raptors when free agency begins. In this scenario we would draft Duren at 11. If we had to we could do what it would take to take the conditions off of the pick we owe Chicago and use a future draft pick or two of ours to make this work. We would have to sign a good backup C (Damian Jones) with the TPMLE and we'd probably want a vet min PG but whoever that is wouldn't be part of our regular rotation. I personally don't think we're 7 steps away from contending. A rotation of Dame, Ant, OG, Randle, Duren, Hart, Nas, Justise and Jones with meaningful spot minutes from Keon and Trendon would be a team that could contend.
They need a big, those are two first round picks and I already said that if we need to we take the conditions off of the pick we owe Chicago so we can sweeten the deal with a future pick of our own. No one laughs at anyone when they get at least two firsts in a trade for a guy who hasn't sniffed the all star game, especially a team where he's been made redundant.
ya unfortunately, i think they overrate OG. Hell, I don't think he's worth 7, but if they insist, I'd rather move on.
I've asked this of others before, and I don't think I've received an answer. Assuming that the Raptors are interested in Nurkic as a starting center to support a Siakam/Barnes frontcourt, what do you think bridges the value gap for the Raptors between Nurk and OG?
In this case a rookie would most definitely count because he would be our starter. From day one he'd be able to protect the rim and get out on the perimeter on defense, he'd rebound on both ends of the court and he'd be a rim runner that would finish at a way higher rate than our current center.
I obviously think it's two firsts but if we really like OG then we should be ready to take the conditions off of the pick we owe Chicago, so we could give the Raptors a third future first. I don't think they could possibly say no to that.
i don't think it's that much but masai clearly doesn't, and that mindset seems to have permeated into the general public too
100% How can anyone watch Boston and GSW and think, "we're only a piece or two away from that." This is why I keep pushing to trade Dame. I love the guy. I really do. He's my favorite player ever. But the chances of us putting together a top 4 team, let alone a true contender, while he's still in his prime is next to zero. So we should be looking to get some value out of him and start the rebuild. We're just wasting time.
Nurk would be a sign and trade so that alone widens any gap between the two but I think two future firsts would bridge that gap.
From Fischer it sounds like we’re the ones insisting on 7 for OG and they’re the ones saying no. Which is probably a smart move by Masai to make Cronin desperate enough to dump all of our other assets into the deal on draft night.
And honestly that's what I'm asking--what (whomever thinks) Masai Ujiri would see as the value gap between OG and Nurk? What level of subsidization would be likely to make a Nurk for OG swap palatable to Raptors management, but also wouldn't be a ridiculous overpay? Or have we concluded that there simply isn't a happy medium here?
I really don't like Joe Cronin. I can't believe we hired this dude without doing any kind of interview process. What an absolute joke of a franchise.
1. Lillard, Simons, Hart: A really good 3-guard, starter minutes rotation. Lillard -- The Star. [Hart only gets traded in a really serious deal.][I expect Simons > CJ] 2. Nurkic: A quality center. Stay healthy! [He's a top 10 center ... being in the top 15 in his position is the minimum.] 3. Little and Ingles at SF has some value to keep and to trade. Little may become a starter. Ingles as a good back-up. Keon and The Backups are NBA guys with small contracts. If the statements above are reasonable, then it's about ... The Forwards. Grant would be a quality option at PF. Collins, too. Anunoby is the best of the 3 being a 3 & D of high quality and is switchable -- he's worth the 7. Collins at PF? Probably worth the 7. Grant at PF? Not the 7. ... IMHO. One off-season is highly unlikely to make the Blazers a "contender." Two off-seasons is ambitious but doable. Dort and other guards? Nice to have if the Blazers didn't have Hart and didn't need 2 starting forwards.
this. and i don't think we give up all our assets and flexibility without landing a center replacement either.
I think it might come down to a choice of Collins + Grant or #7 (the assumption is #16 would come with Collins). Blazers would NOT be getting Grant for the Milwaukee pick. I'm fine with that by the way obviously, if Toronto would take #16 + Milwaukee pick for Anunoby (quite unlikely), then Collins + OG has more upside (disregarding injury histories) than Collins + Grant. Funny thing is that Anunoby is older than Collins
