OT Juneteenth

Effectively, today is a national holiday. correct?

 

Yes and no. The Portland VA hospital is closed except for critical services such as emergency and dialysis. I had an appointment this morning and thought surely they were closed. Recently found out that the hospital was open for business today.
I wonder how many other agencies and private businesses could not yet implement the holiday. Mail was delivered today as was UPS.

 

June 19th. So tomorrow.

 

This year, though, as the 19th falls on a Saturday, today was supposed to be the holiday for many.

 

My company took the day off today in reflection.

Its a Federal Holiday now. Banks, Post Offices are closed, etc.

I don't get it off, but its a federal holiday. Most large corporations probably give it off now. My wife gets it off.

 

Which is fantastic. It should be recognized, not taken advantage of.

Every Holiday has merch. Is this supposed to be a somber holiday or something? Its a celebratory holiday. People need to buy shirts or posters or whatever they buy.

 

Corporations profiting off it. That's what the fuck I'm talking about. It's the next Valentine's day sort of bullshit.

 

Most people won't know its a Holiday unless there's a display at target
