    1. Dort + 12 + future pick + 34 = 7 (discussed elsewhere) is in the ballpark and builds assets for other trades. Dort + 12 does not equal 7. The New York chatter (Burks, Noel) is … crap.

Hypothetical TPs as a reflection upon Cronin and all such what-ifs … good luck with that. 5 days and counting until we get reality.

    insulting trade offer

Burks is a middle-class man's Tony Snell; and Noel is good for maybe 30 games a year. Meanwhile, the Blazers not only drop down 4 slots in the lottery for a couple of scrubs, they get to spend their big TPE

this leak, obviously out of NY, is probably a public fuck-you to Portland for privately discussing #7 for Randle and #11.

Cronin was the one selling assets other teams were chasing and he had no leverage.

Now things are flipped and... he still has no leverage?

    Yay, our GM sucks!

    Joe didn't get fleeced.
The team after the trade deadline with Hart and Winslow was better than the one with McCollum, Roco and Powell.
Hart and Winslow don't fuck around on defense, and Winslow had a huge impact on the ball movement in general and getting Nurkic high-percentage scoring opportunities specifically.

It’s almost like real life isn’t like 2K and fit is more important. On paper CJ, Powell and RoCo might be better than Winslow and Hart but they weren’t better fits on an actual court.

Neither one is a great trade, but Burks & Noel is a better offer than Dort

Who cares? RoCo and Norm have value around the league. So does CJ. Just because they weren’t a good fit here doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be a good fit elsewhere. We got pennies on the dollar for CJ, Norm, RoCo, and Nance.

I really think the perfect offseason for us would be trading EBEC and 7 for Randle and 10. We're able to get Duren at 10. We take a break glass in case of emergency PG at 36. We find a cheap way to take the conditions off of the pick we owe the Bulls. We do what it takes to make Nurk S&T for OG as far as future firsts go. We sign Hartenstein with most of the TPMLE, leaving the rest for our second round PG.

Dame, Ant, OG, Randle, Duren, Hart, Nas, Justise, Hartenstein, 36th pick PG, Keon, Trendon, Greg, Didi. If we have that roster and Dame/Ant can be much more complementary than Dame/CJ then we will be contenders. That might be because I think that Duren would be ROY and be all defense second team. I think he's a monster and has a spectacular feel for the game.

lol yeah, I’m gonna disagree with that one. Those dudes aren’t assets.

Burks is a decent player (as a 6-8th man).

I never said they were 'assets'. Just that the reported package is better than Dort (who is wildly overrated)

if they aren’t assets how can it be a better package? Or are you arguing Dort isn’t one either? Because that’d be wrong, especially when you consider his contract.

Noel has averaged about 5 points and 6 rebounds over the last 3 seasons, when he hasn't been injured. He's an acceptable backup big for a limited role. But that is why he's only worthy of a minimum contract; instead, he'll make 9.2M next season

Burks is a one-dimensional player, kind of like Tony Snell on Red Bull. His career marks in PER and TS% are below average; he's a mediocre rebounder and passer. He seems worthy of somewhere between a vet-minimun deal and 4M/year, but 4M is an overpay. But he will make 10.1M next season

Burks + Noel will make 19.4 M. The supposed NY offer didn't mention Bledsoe so essentially Portland would drop from 7 to 11 AND waste their big 'valuable' TPE for a couple of grossly overpaid scrubs. It's an insulting offer and I suspect it was deliberately leaked out of NY to be an insulting offer. And a leak like that might very well show there is a conflict in the Knicks front office about a Portland offer. Maybe Blazers offered something like Bledsoe + #7 for Randle + 11 + future pick(s)
    ************************************

I'm not in favor of 7 for Dort and 12...at all. I kind of hate it in fact. He's a bad shooter as a smallish guard. Norm Powell with shitty offense and much better defense. He'll be in the final year of his rookie extension next season too, which is not a plus. Maybe the biggest red flag is that he's missed more than 90 games in 3 seasons. Now I don't know if it was injuries or a lot of DNP-CD's in his rookie year, but if injuries, that's a big concern

but I can see what the bet might be with Dort...that he might be a clone of Marcus Smart. A 3rd year comparison:

    upload_2022-6-19_9-0-59.png

accounting for the fact that Smart has been on much better teams, in many ways Dort equals or beats Smart in the comparison. The big advantage for Smart is that he can play PG. He has a much higher assist rate which may mean that Dort is locked into being a small wing

there is also the significant factor that Dort's salary fit's easily into Portland's smallest TPE so it doesn't cost the Blazers an additional asset

still, I don't find that persuasive at all....especially not at the cost of #7.

I suppose if the plan was something like #7 for Dort + #12 + #30 + future pick; then the Blazers traded #30 + future pick for Grant while using #12 on Duren/Sochan I could throw up a little and accept the trade

Bad take. Dort is really good even if he's a duplication at a position not needed. Hart COULD slide to the 3.
