Unfortunately my Sony Bravia KDL-55W802A started flashing a red light yesterday, and won’t turn on. It’s 8-10 years old but was working just fine. I’m guessing it is a power supply issue. I’d rather seek to repair it than buy another.

Anyone have a business in the area that they would recommend for repairs?

Or have you done it yourself? I haven’t soldered electronics much and am not sure how great I am at it. Nor have I diagnosed what parts I need (will need to call Sony to see if they can tell me).

So Sorry about your Sony going down. I'm convinced TV's are pre planned to break. This might be impossible to fix on your own and the repair company is going To charge you. I have two Sharps and they have lasted over ten years, so far.. The latest is a Samsung AU 8000 65". I went with my family on the purchase date, so distractions didn't alert me, to the missing audio jacks design this model has. I'm disappointed and wrote to the CEO. They directed that to an Arabian site!! Stay away from Vizio products too.

I have not lived in the Portland area for over a decade, but I distinctly remember the Crystal ballroom ads discussing tv repairman in Molalla. ;)

I had this idea 5 years ago when my last TV broke. I looked into it some and realized TVs are made to be disposable these days and not easy to repair. They are cheap enough to just get another one and cheaper to buy one than to fix them usually.

Kind of like refrigerators. They are made to break in 8-10 years. My sister has one in her garage though that is over 40 years old. They don't make'em like that anymore.

Count the blinks. It's a code. Might be an easy fix.

Man you could probably make some decent money repairing TV’s. It’s still cheaper than buying a new one and if you have a 4KOLED or something it’s definitely worth it to fix it. Even just the old 4K TV’s are really good quality.

I’m also not a fan of the “if it breaks, buy a new one” belief with electronics. I seek repairing more often than not. Recycling/trashing old electronics is horrible for the environment too.

But repairing instead of buying a new one is anti-capitalist! How can number-line go up if you keep not buying more?!

I hope you can fix your TV! Sony used to be one of the most repairable brands out there, despite their miniaturization (I'm in the minidisc community, and we do a lot of self-repair of these old decks).

There used to be that Sony Store in NW Portland, Sony Only! Too bad most TV repairs will fuck you these days. But if you can order the part online somewhere and just swap it yourself, it could be fun.

I'm more of the camp, "through it in the gutter and go buy another".

At this point TVs are SO inexpensive, I’ll just get new ones if something goes bad.

Take out the mother board and look for any exploded electrolytic capacitors.

TV’s are like the only thing that has gotten cheaper over the years. Just buy a new one. It’s not like olden days where you lugged in your 500lb tv system to the shop and got it repaired
