We don't having a starting forward or a backup center. Both needs are much more important than a 4th string emergency PG. Blazer fans have some odd fascination with wanting a backup PG on the roster even though there is no minutes or roll available for them.
If Dame and Ant both get hurt? Well sure we don't have a 3rd string player that could fill a starting role. Nor should we. That is super overkill for a roster. We currently don't have a starting forward nor a backup center. Those are much larger roles we know do need to be filled. If Dame and Ant are both hurt the team can deal with that later.
I think it's more, "if one of Dame or Ant get hurt, we don't have anyone who can be a backup PG for 15 mpg". And I don't think that's incorrect. But I certainly wouldn't make it a priority. Bigs first. Vet min max for 3rd-string PG, IMO.
Now I agree the final 15 man roster should have someone who can play emergency PG besides Dame or Ant. The Blazers can sign that person much later, or have young players battle for it in training camp, etc. That 15 man roster is finalized in October. It doesn't need to be something addressed in July any more than 3rd/4th string center needs to be addressed right away now (after 2nd string).
I think he would be a very bad target, wouldn't be happy with his role. We want someone in that 15th spot that will practice hard, be a positive locker room presence, but fill in a couple minutes in a rare emergency.
A multipositional player that has been signing for the vet min like Austin Rivers wouldn't be a bad pickup. If one of Dame or Ant do get injured for a small period of time or even have to miss a couple of games in the playoffs we'd be really glad that we had someone like that and I disagree with @B-Roy that Hart is capable of holding that down. Nothing in his history would support that theory.
Also, there are some who have postulated that Keon has the chops to play PG. Perhaps he'll be our third-stringer?
Yeah, if Chauncey sees that, then that could be a great solution. I just don't know for myself if it is and Hart seems like it wouldn't be realistic. Guess we'll have to trust the pros to know their personnel. Feels a little less scary with a career basketball guy than it did with a failed actor.
It's what Hart and Chauncey have been saying, so whether you believe me or not it's what they are going to do next year.
Also could depend on who else we add as a forward. If we get a forward who can initiate offense then Hart could probably be fine as an emergency backup PG along with that forward for a couple minutes each half. Think of Batum here years ago, or before that Pippen.
Is the Memphis/Philly Melton deal official yet? Wonder if Danny Green is still on the Sixers' payroll. He was solely a salary filler in that trade.
ya just googled it. morey was talking about, so im guessing it is. acquiring matisse would probably involve our RoCo TPE. Not sure how Bledsoe can get involved unless we take on more salary.
If it happens before 3 today, we could slot thybulle in to our smaller tpe, and korkmanz into the roco one. After 3, new salary, thybulle makes too much for our smaller one.
