Mets Trade C/1B Mike Jacobs and P Yusilermo Petit to the Florida Marlins for 1B Carlos Delago and 7 million dollers Cash Reports Newsday.I dont know what to think, it gives our lineup the big hitter it needed, but it trades 2 of our younger talent players.
Like I said on baseball central....I dont see how this is a dumb move expect people seeming to always want to hate on the Mets. With the addition of Carlos Delgado....Mike Jacobs became expendable being that hes a first baseman who cant hit left handed pitching, and is almost always swinging for the fences. It wouldnt be too long before major league pitching figured him out and at best were probably looking at a .270 hitter, 22 HR, 80 RBI, probably even worse now that hes playing in the ballpark in Florida with no protection in the lineup that the Mets could give him.Yusmeiro Petit has never pitched an inning of major league baseball, but by most of what im hearing is that the odds are unlikely of him being anything other then a mediocre propsect who will turn into at best a mediocre major league pitcher. He is nothing like the prospects like Scott Kazmir that we let go for alot less.Good move Omar Minaya (IMO).Now we can go and add Billy Wagner and Ramon Hernandez and fill a couple of minor holes and we will be a playoff team IMO.
They also took in Carlos Beltan last year and he looked a hell of a lot better when he was in Houston. I donno what this is gonna do for the Mets, we'll have to see how it plays out.
Beltran was also playing with a sore hamstring the entire first half and a sore face after crashing with Cameron. I expect better out of Carlos Beltran this season then last year.
